Lauren + Tony planned their sweet Australian wedding around three things: playfulness, music + love. :) I love that they had lots of dates together planning, making, baking, searching for the perfect book, vase, frame, etc. They really wanted their day to be relaxed and fun which you’ll see it totally is! I’m also totally in love with the way they choose to do their First Look – seriously so, so sweet! Thanks so much to Lara Hotz Photography for the photos and congrats to Lauren + Tony!
From Lauren: The story of the bridesmaid dresses is very special to me! One of the girl’s parents live in India, so she suggested we get them made there. We choose a beautiful mint linen and the girls got to pick their own style of dress. They were made in India and sent back to us. It was so exciting having them come from half way around the world, specially made for each girl. We embellished them with some beautiful lace and then they were perfect!
The flowers were ordered less than a week before the wedding! I wanted to make the bouquets up myself – nothing fancy, so I had half the flowers delivered to my hotel and half to the venue. My bridesmaids and I made up the bouquets in the morning and Anthony made up the arrangements for the venue early that morning! It was a beautiful surprise to see what he’d done as I walked down the aisle.
My favourite moment was before the wedding even started! We chose to meet before the ceremony, with our bridal party and get all the photos out of the way. We chose Vintage VW Kombi vans as our wedding cars and drove around the streets of Balmain, which is where Anthony and I had our first date! This location was just perfect. We stopped off anywhere and everywhere and discovered some amazing treasures hidden around the streets. Rope swings, abandoned terraces, vintage caravans, it was a dream. It was such a stress reliever before the wedding, our photographer Lara even encouraged some mid street dancing, they are probably some of my favourite photos of the day.
Processional: Good Luck Charm – Elvis Presley
Recessional: Eight Days A Week – The Beatles
First Dance: Buddy Holly – Everyday
I haven’t tasted a better cake than one my mum has cooked, so it only seemed right she bake my wedding cakes! We chose 3 delicious cakes, a coconut layer cake, mud chocolate and a green velvet. It was such a nostalgic experience baking cakes with my mum the day before the wedding, we got to bond one last time before I was married and that time meant the world to me!
The first dance was a total surprise for me! And we kind of had 2 of them! We had a two piece 50’s-60’s cover band play for us, and as soon as we walked into the reception hall they insisted we go up and dance, so our first unofficial dance was Everyday by Buddy Holly. Then, later into the night, I thought our first dance was going to be Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen but instead Tony got up there and sang it to me! It was truly unbelievable and was actually the first secret he was able to completely conceal from me! So then when we got up for our first dance, I of course had nothing planned. The band then played Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You by Frankie Valli. I love both of these songs, so to have them surprise me with them meant more to me than choosing myself.
Don’t Stress! I never stressed, not for one second. It’s easy to let the stress of planning a wedding get to you, but at the end of the day it WILL come together, the day is so special and full of love, there’s no need to feel any emotion but excitement!
