Guys, get ready to completely fall for Lucy + John and their absolutely adorable Austin, Texas wedding! We promise it’ll get your week started off on the right foot :) L + J kept things in perspective while planning their day, looking for a venue that was a local spot they already loved and frequented, keeping their guest list small and totally intimate, and serving an entirely vegetarian menu because that’s what they eat on a daily basis. In addition to all the personalized details, we love how they made their celebration a community affair, opting to involve their talented friends and family in the planning and design process.
Lucy shares, We leaned heavy on our talented pool of pals to be a part of the details. From designing wedding invitations featuring Larry David and bottles of Sriracha, creating chalkboard signage, helping get special beers, officiating the ceremony and spinning records- our friends helped tremendously. Getting to see so many great folks in our lives together in the same beautiful space ended up being the most special part.
So fun, right? Big thanks to Geoff Duncan for sharing his beautiful captures from this wedding with us!
Bridesmaids in white? Yes please! Especially when the bride is wearing a dress as bright + fun as Lucy did. More on her look in just a sec! In the meantime, shop this bridesmaid look in our guide below:
On her wedding day look, Lucy tells us, I felt like this was an opportunity to buy a crazy dress that I adored and I was so underwhelmed by traditional wedding styles. I loved that my dress (from Temperly London) was colorful and my boots were well-worn ones from Madewell that I’ve had for years. It made me feel comfortable and like myself. I never felt like I was wearing a costume.
(And isn’t her green + white bouquet by Pollen is just too pretty?!)
John: The exchanging of our own vows was a blur of happiness. I feel like I mostly said what I intended to, didn’t stutter too much or accidentally offend anyone in the crowd, but what I come back over and over again as my favorite part of the day was when Lucy recited hers to me in a casual and almost extemporaneous manner. Again- it was blur but from what I remember, she said just the nicest damn thing, including a pledge to always go see Weird Al with me. What a gal.
Lucy: There is so much happening and my favorite moments were the quietest ones; I loved getting ready with my bridesmaids who are my five closest pals and all but one live out of state. They bought grocery store sushi and candy and it was such a treat to have them all in one place. My most special memory is right after the ceremony, being in a room alone with John and just hugging each other and being in disbelief at how lucky and happy I was.
We opted out of having a wedding planner and that ended up being a really good decision. We had super supportive friends, family and vendors that lent a hand but it ended up saving us lots of money and kept us connected to the process and helped keep the day true to us.
We also kept things casual on the day of. We didn’t have printed programs or a seated dinner. We wanted guests to just feel like they were at a great party and have the freedom to do what they wanted, when they wanted.
The bridal party all rented their dresses because, really, who wants to own a bridesmaid dress?
