A Handmade Garden Wedding: Hallie + Luke

bride and groom

Hallie + Luke attended 21 weddings in the last 3 years (wow!), so once they became engaged they already knew exactly what type of wedding they wanted. They really just wanted to throw a big bash that their family + friends would have a blast at with the theme “True Love is a Big Deal”. Planning started at a quick pace for them as they had the venue – The Dana-Powers House – and date picked within 24 hours. Hallie is a graphic designer, so she knew she wanted to create a lot of the elements herself, but made sure to hire a planner (Alana from Love Me Simple) to handle the little details and set up for the day. Big thanks also to Cameron Ingalls for all the photos + congrats to Hallie + Luke!

From Hallie, We were fortunate to have the help of our family and friends who made so many details for the day: Luke’s Papa crafted a large wooden sign to hang over the gazebo, my Grandpa made our money tree out of manzanita branches, numerous aunts grandmothers and mothers made pies for our desserts, and my mom made an incredible topiary out of succulents for our escort cards. Everything was a big hit the day of the wedding, people most enjoyed the fabric flower corsages and boutonnieres we provided, the lounge area for our reception and our custom printed pint glass favors with cotton candy.

Although in the end I think everyone’s favorite detail came long before the wedding, when we sent out our save the dates with an underwater engagement photo. The day was beautiful and went as smoothly as any wedding could go.

Poppy Field Bridal Shoot

poppy field bridal session

I typical don’t share bridal sessions on GWS, but this one really caught my eye. The gorgeous bride is MaKenzie and she lives at the foothills of a beautiful little village called GreenBluff. GreenBluff is a community of families who own orchards of apples, peaches, cherries, pears, blackberries, strawberries, and pumpkins. It is a place that is homespun and very family + community centered. All of this was used as the inspiration for her bridal shoot. To me, the most wonderful element of the day was a field of poppies! Such a beautiful setting… Thanks so much to Easy Dreamer Photography and Romancing the Stone Styling for sending this my way!

DIY Valentine’s Day Wedding Ideas

valentines day wedding inspiration

Valentine’s day is only a few days away and I just adore all these sweet ideas Jessica May Photo is sharing with us today. Lots of cute ideas that would be easy to DIY for your big day – or to celebrate with your sweetie next week! :)

Fabric & Lace Ceremony Backdrop
I used a lace tablecloth and two bed sheets for the backdrop. Just cut everything into strips, iron the fabric and tie to a rope. I found the paper flowers in the $1 section at the craft store but you could also make paper flowers.

Yarn Poms
These don’t take much time at all to make + the possibilities are endless. This tutorial shows how to make them!

Vases
I went to every thrift store near my house and picked out random vases in random sizes, just whatever I thought looked cool. Then spray painted some of them to go with my color scheme. I love how they look alone and I love how they look with flowers too.

Bride and Groom Signs
Just take some thin cardboard, draw out the letters, cut them out, paint them with craft glue and dip in glitter. Hot glue them to your twine, done!

Little frames
Some of the frames I found in the $1 section of my favorite craft store, some are from The Organic Bloom. I just put some fabric inside to dress them up a little.

Embroidery Hoops
Pull some fabric through your hoops and then get creative. I stamped the word love with some red paint in one hoop, I even made a bunch of pink rosettes and then glued them on the fabric. The sky is the limit!

Thumbprint Guestbook
You can easily make your own thumbprint guestbook! I used canvas paper and sketched the VW love bug by hand. I found a frame (which I spray painted red) w/ pink matting at the thrift store.

Your Local Thrift Store
Remember to check out your local thrift store for lots of cheap finds! I thrifted the china, table cloth, pink antique window, embroidery hoops, colorful doilies, the pink quilt used as the photobooth backdrop, the pink frame used in the photobooth and the pink cake table there.

Thanks so much to all these vendors for sharing their talents today!
