DIY Metropolitan Building Wedding: Lindsey + Trevor

metropolitan New York wedding

Lindsey + Trevor have a deep love for art + design. He has a background in architecture and she in visual arts + display. The main inspiration for their early fall DIY wedding was their gorgeous venue, The Metropolitan Building in Queens, New York. At first sight, they fell in love with the raw wood + exposed brick and saw their wedding as a chance to fulfill their shared passion for finding old objects and making them new again. So a handmade celebration was the only way to go. They built their own wedding backdrop, put together the tablescape centerpieces, even tackled the floral design, with the help of a few talented friends. Total DIY gurus, these two.

Let’s get right to it + check out the beautiful photos by Turn Loose The Art!

Guys, this dress! Lindsey found it at a Pronovias sample sale and the train was altered to incorporate hand-dyed indigo fabric, stitched in by her mom + aunts. We’re blown away!

Lindsey + Trevor constructed a large weaving installation from reclaimed wood + fabric trims that acted as the backdrop for their ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony the bride’s side had the fabric pieces in the front, while the wood pieces were in front on the groom’s side. Instead of a unity candle, the bride and groom had their families come up and assist them in weaving the pieces together while Mike Hopper of Trading Ashes sang a song.

One of the most notable design features was the lighting fixtures created by Cassidy Brush of Urban Chandy in Brooklyn. Cassidy and her team did a full installation for Trevor & Lindsey and it was breathtaking, right?

Make every detail personal and don't do things a certain way because that's what is "supposed" to happen. Use your friends and families. They will be honored to be a part and it makes for wonderful memories.

Indoor Greenery Wedding Inspiration

indoor greenery inspiration

Lush, beautiful weddings aren’t exclusively reserved for the outdoors. And for our gorgeous styled feature today, photographed by the talented Ben Q. Photography, the team wanted to bring natural elements to an indoor setting. The ceremony was staged with a climbing vine arbor, complete with potted twigs, sprigs and leaves. Bows + Arrows created a sweetly untamed garden rose bouquet. And the intimate sweetheart table was crowned with a floating wreath made of hops vine. We’re pretty much obsessed. So much inspiration for couples who are planning an indoor celebration to get excited about!

Next we have Huatulco, one of Mexico’s most relaxing tourist destinations. With 22-miles of picturesque beaches, relax on the sand or enjoy the region’s abundant marine life during a scuba diving or snorkeling excursion. And environmentally-conscious couples can have their dream green wedding in Huatulco, at the hemisphere’s first eco-tourism resort. Love that!

Last but not least is Vallarta-Nayarit, a destination where you’ll find an exotic blend of vibrant culture, Mexican flavor, and nature at her best. Exchange “I do’s” as the sun sets over the pacific ocean or enjoy watersports, nightlife, and beach combing during your first trip as a married couple! And Vallarta-Nayarit is home to Banderas Bay, where you can enjoy the thrill of whales up close from December through April. That would be so cool! :)
