Modern Geometric Wedding on a Bridge: Lauren + Jon

Newport Beach wedding

Ok, so the story of how Lauren + Jon met is straight out of a movie! They worked out of the same building for a while and always passed each other on a bridge between the parking structure and their building. Each time they passed each other on the bridge they would make eye contact and smile. Eventually it progressed to a smile and a “hello”. Then, they each started waking up looking forward to their little encounters and would be super sad if they didn’t see each other each day! After some time, Jon finally worked up the courage to finally ask Lauren out and the rest is history…

When asked about the inspiration behind their wedding, Lauren says: Since we met on a bridge, we chose geometry to reflect structure and building for a strong future relationship. And with the two of them each being talented designers, trust us, no detail was overlooked. We love that Steve Cowell Photography was there to perfectly capture it all for us to see…oh, and did we mention their ceremony was ON a bridge?! So perfect…

It was extremely helpful to collaborate and decide on things together. It helped us make the day personal and truly reflect us, our past, and where we’re headed. Oh, and we had a lot of fun along the way!

Styled San Francisco Proposal

styled engagement

When we heard some of our fave creatives (ahem, Jesi Haack The Love Riot) were opening branches in San Francisco soon, we were crazy excited for them to say the least! Then, when they shared this super fun styled shoot they created to celebrate the upcoming openings, we were thrilled to get to feature it here on GWS!

The theme of this sweet faux proposal was “I left my heart in SF” and the colors are some of our faves: black, gold, and white. The cutie models are a real SF couple + we love how the team set-up a stylish proposal spot as well as a little celebratory engagement dinner! Total inspiration for couples who just got engaged to do something fun to celebrate. It can be something low-key, just the two of you (check out our V-day Date Night In for ideas) or maybe an intimate engagement party with close family + friends!

Thanks to the other top notch creatives involved: To Wander and SeekAmpersandConservatory of FlowersFrances Lane + One True Love Vintage Rentals!

Glamping Resort Wedding: Asha + Clay

Glamping wedding

You all caught Asha + Clay’s super stylish rehearsal dinner, right? We’re excited to keep the fun going with their colorful Costanoa Lodge wedding planned + executed by the team at Enjoy Events Co.. When it came down to the design specifics, A + C let their choices be unconventional. If something felt like it would be a fun fit, they went with it! And likewise, they had no troubles foregoing traditions that didn’t resonate with them. Asha says, Instead of a wedding party, we simply asked friends to do readings, calling it an ensemble production. We both love to entertain, and in many ways, we felt that the happiness of our guests was our happiness, too. We both picked clothing that made us feel amazing. Clay wore a fully custom, bespoke suit and I wore a Vera Wang party dress. We met on the beach for an intimate first look before the festivities began. This private moment was perfect.

Thanks so much to Gretchen Gause Photography for sharing these beautiful images with us and congrats to Asha + Clay on their stunning wedding!

Costanoa Lodge ceremony

Our ceremony took place on a lawn facing the mountains. Instead of a traditional walk-down-the-aisle, where people have to crane their necks to see the bride and groom, we had a stroke of inspiration that the ceremony would begin with all 180 of our guests making a circle around the space. We never anticipated that walking into this giant circle would be the most breathtaking moment of our lives. We were suddenly looking into the eyes of all our loved ones, and held in their embrace.

The tented reception was designed with lush blooms (a la Shotgun Floral Studio) + color in mind! We are obsessed with overhead wreaths and the rich hues of the centerpieces (those red + pink dahlias are totally to die for!). The pretty place settings comprised of lovely Casa De Perrin pieces were definitely a great finishing touch.

Before you begin planning, talk about what the day means to you both, and what elements are important. Don’t feel like you need to do everything. Spend your time, money and energy on the things that are really meaningful. For example, we cared about having an exceptional DJ over a formal cake cutting ceremony. We made some choices that were unconventional and those were the parts that made the event feel uniquely ours. Also, good wedding planners are worth every penny.
