Modern + Minimal Atlanta Wedding: Yvonne + Young

Minimal Atlanta Wedding

Does the idea of lots of planning + deciding on the perfect details kind of make you want to elope? Well, this wedding might inspire you to keep planning a wedding, but by having it at a restaurant with great food + design, there isn’t really much else you’ll need to worry about! We hope it will inspire those of you big on minimal design + great food.

Yvonne, the bride, is a talented photographer + graphic designer, so her style was clearly seen in every aspect of the wedding. But when it came to decide between an intimate celebration and a larger affair, she + Young (her groom) had different opinions about what felt right. She says, I honestly envisioned that I would get married in a courthouse with just our families as witnesses. I dread being in front of large crowds. Young, on the other hand, is a little more outgoing and has always wanted to have a larger wedding. So we compromised, and kept it kind of small (91 in total).

Less is always more in my book, so no wedding party and going the restaurant route was a great decision for us. The Optimist itself is beautiful so no need for much décor, the food is great, and the staff was so helpful we didn’t need to do any set up. My vision was to keep things minimal, the day isn’t about how grand the centerpieces are or what dress I was wearing. It’s about the union of Young and I and capturing that moment and our emotions.

Big thanks to the photographer behind today’s Atlanta wedding, Kaitie Bryant, for sending this one our way!

The ceremony. I was so nervous; my flowers were completely trembling in my hands. I cried of course, but wasn’t a complete wreck and on the floor as I imagined. We went back and forth searching for an officiant for our wedding, but we are so happy that we ended up asking Young’s brothers to officiate. They gave a wonderful speech that only someone as close as family would be able to tell and were cute and quirky, which made it fit perfectly in our wedding.

So, not only do I think less is more, I’m pretty practical, and I like coffee. I’m also a fan of mini things. So of course mini coffee bags were the perfect wedding favors. If I was already going to design and print my own coffee labels, I should just make the label include each guest’s name, lunch choice, and table number. Two in one. Perfect. We bought coffee at Costco and our two friends helped us fill the bags.

Don’t stress about the small stuff, the details are important but it’s not what the day is all about. Get a great photographer. You’ll be grateful 30 years from now that you did.

Sarah: Decide exactly what you want to do for your wedding and make a plan for when you want to finish things by. I made a monthly schedule for when I wanted to complete all of my diy-ing. This really helped me get everything I wanted to get done without too much stress.
Also the biggest thing was to remember when everything gets over whelming you can always look at your plan and move things around so you can de-stress for a month or until your ready to rock again.

Leigh: Sarah did most of the leg work planning and crafting as she had a vision and I wanted to help her achieve that. As a designer I started out with building a nice palette of colors that would work for the day and designed all of the print. This a great way to establish the style you’re going for and you will find that a lot of the decor and details will evolve from this. Think about color, theme, location and how it will all tie together and then go out and find some inspiration and get crafting.

Canadian Rocky Mountains Camp Wedding: Sarah + Leigh – Part 1

Aztec Canada wedding

We’re kinda-sorta-super-insanely excited to share that all March long it’s gonna be Wedding Wednesday here at GWS! Pretty much just as evident as it sounds, since we have been getting SO many amazing weddings submitted each week, it seemed like the perfect time to share TWO incredible real weddings each Wednesday this month.

We’re starting WW off with a bang, thanks to Sarah + Leigh’s rad camp wedding full of DIY details captured by the one-and-only Phil Chester! Since Sarah is a wedding photog herself, and noticed she was shooting so many of the same wedding trends year after year, the main motivation behind her + Leigh’s big day was to make it really unique and reflective of them. Sarah tells us, I love the style of Aztec patterns which was the base of our inspiration with bright pops of colour. Being mostly outside, we also wanted to bring in natural elements like terrariums, arrows and succulents.

Sarah: The most memorable part of the day for me was waiting with my mom before she walked me down the aisle. At that moment the butterflies started to happen and the moment the doors open for me to walk down, the tears came out. I really was super excited to be marrying my best friend.

Leigh: The moment she came down the aisle for me was the most memorable when I realized I was getting married to my best friend and the love of my life. I’m not an overly emotional guy, but being up front really took me away, it felt like it was only the two of us.
