My Wedding Reimagined: Apartment 34

This week on My Wedding Reimagined we are chatting with the lovely + stylish Erin from Apartment 34! Erin is the founder of Apartment 34 (one of my fave blogs!) where she  shares unique finds + creative ideas related to décor, fashion, food, and travel – all the details that make life a little better! And she recently launched a site redesign that is so super lovely! If you’ve been a longtime GWS reader, you may remember Erin’s gorgeous, intimate Baja wedding that we shared a few years back – along with some great tips for those of you planning a destination wedding. A great read + view if you missed it. :) Thanks Erin for stopping by and dreaming about weddings again with us…

Looking back {nearly three years now}, there’s actually very little about our wedding that I would change. We held an intimate, remote destination event that allowed us to spend a lot of time with our closest family and friends. I think there are only two things I’d change today. The first is my dress. While I loved it at the time, it’s too easy to see new styles that I LOVE even more now. And I would address my only regret; not hiring someone to create a wedding film. The talents of people like Joel Serrato, SharkPig or Paperback Weddings are so worth every penny.

If I had my (dream) wedding to do all over again…

your wedding fashion style: Classically chic. My only regret is wearing a strapless wedding dress. I’m loving today’s looks with a minimum of shoulder straps {like Candice Lake’s Alberta Ferretti dress}, or even sleeves like the amazing Temperly London.

color palette: Blush, cream, gold, rose

current day-to-day fashion/interior design/art trends you’d incorporate: Fashion culture is a great place to look for inspiration. You can use your wedding dress to set the tone for your entire event and I’m loving the return of more traditional, sophisticated silhouettes.

vibe for your wedding + reception: I love the return to classic glamour, minimalism and a slight Great Gatsby influence that we’ve seen on the runways in the last year. I would love to see the return of the elegant, almost formal wedding. I’m dying to attend a black-tie event this year!

where would you draw inspiration? When planning a wedding, I recommend drawing inspiration from everywhere. Obviously, wedding blogs like Green Wedding Shoes are a must. I felt so lucky to have planned my wedding as wedding blogs were really taking off. Now the amount of resources at a bride’s fingertip is almost overwhelming. Thankfully, you now also have Pinterest (which I didn’t) to hone your style and preferences into clearly defined moodboards. This will help you pick a direction and stick to it. The brides kryptonite is changing her mind. While indecision come with the wedding planning territory, setting a direction and sticking to it will help keep stress at bay!

Vineyard Wedding Inspiration Board

location: Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, California

the dress: The Mallerie for myself and these bridesmaid dresses for my ladies (both pictured above)

the flowers: pink peonies, white ranunculus, dusty miller, grey succulents, gold sequin ribbon

would you DIY anything? I think this season is moving away from DIY details. I would focus on classic skills for wedding details including calligraphy for things like place cards and table numbers. If you are into DIYs there are a few exceptions that would work for the ultimate wine country wedding. I am loving these DIY topiary place card holders as well as these wine cork place card holders.

dream photographer: My wedding photographer – Jose Villa. I wouldn’t have traded him for the world!

on the menu: Nothing but a menu full of classic and chic dishes! Cocktail hour: oyster bar, crostini with crème fraîche and caviar topped with salmon roe, and seared scallops with aioli. Dinner: 3 course meal with wine pairings – Arugula, Fuji Apple and Duck Prosciutto Salad with Pinot Grigio; Butter-poached Maine Lobster on Polenta with Chardonnay; and Filet with caramelized onions and blue cheese potato soufflé with Cabernet Sauvignon Dessert: a gold cake with flowers, gold truffles, and blush macarons with gold leaf Cocktail: Star Light cocktail

soundtrack: In the days of DJing with an iPod, I am very into the trend of live bands for wedding, the bigger the better. I love the idea of going with a theme too, from jazz to swing to R&B – you can create a rocking party with having to involve any of the Billboard 100! (Sorry Beyonce) processional: The Book of Love – instrumental; recessional: All You Need is Love – string instrumental; first dance: Fly Me to the Moon – Frank Sinatra; last song of the night: Last Dance – Donna Summer

any fun activities at the reception? croquet, bean bag toss with monogramed boards, a photo booth, loose paper for people to write advice or messages for the bride and groom to be bound later into a book.
