Modern Handmade Canadian Wedding: Jamie + Randy

british columbia wedding

Jamie, the adorable bride from today’s lovely handmade celebration, is a wedding photographer from British Columbia, so she knows a pretty wedding when she sees one! And when it came time to plan her own celebration, it was important to her, and her fiancé, Randy, that their day be personal + meaningful, with a fun, house party vibe. (Gotta love that!) They styled their venue with modern design elements in a refreshing palette of gray, blush + aqua and DIY’d it all, from the giant reclaimed wood ceremony backdrop to the littlest table detail. Yep, these guys are pretty much our DIY heroes!

More from Jamie, To personalize our day, we carefully selected every detail. I opted to stay away from anything “traditional but silly” like cake cutting, garter throwing, bouquet toss – we didn’t even have a first dance! The lodge filled with 150 of the dearest people to us, a loud music mix of country, R&B, indie and jazz and lots and lots of good food was just right. And we loved the relaxed “far from everything” feel of our venue, Fraser River Lodge in Agassiz, BC. My husband loves the outdoors and grew up on North Vancouver Island, the rustic feel suited “us” perfectly.

Thanks so much to Lydia Jane for sharing these super lovely images with us today and, of course, big time congrats to the happy couple!

The most memorable part of our wedding day was the First Look and the Grand Exit. I was so excited to see Randy for the first time and I could see him across the field where he stood with his back turned away from me. Our photographer Lydia has instructed Randy to not turn around until I came up to him, so I talked most of the way. “Hi Randy! I see youuuu! I’m comiiiiiiing!” And when he turned around, we laughed and hugged and kissed and he had so much nervous energy he was shaking a little and it was cute and happy. Second most memorable was our sparkler exit. I barely remember even looking at a face other than Randy’s, but we ran through the lights until we were in his big black pick-up truck and the doors closed. It was all over and it was beautiful.

These two were on a tight budget for the big day, so every single thing really was handmade by them! The “W” marquee sign, crafted by Randy, is a major fave + Jamie was super inventive when it came to the table decor. She even purchased wholesale fabric, which she cut + fashioned into pretty, graphic table runners.

LOVE that Jamie took our String Heart DIY + made it her own, by crafting her table numbers using the same approach!

You know you want to see just a little bit more! So check out J + R’s sweet wedding film by Hello Tomorrow Films!

Excel spreadsheets. They saved my butt. I had 12 different spreadsheets for various tasks throughout our wedding including one master sheet where I recorded every expense (even down to dollar store purchases) and another where I kept every single task we needed. I organized specific tasks and slotted them to specific weeks. We were only engaged for 4 months but with this kinda organization, it turned out phenomenally. I also have a very patient, helpful husband.
