Modern Downtown Wedding: Amanda + Kjirk

bride and groom

With Kjirk being deployed in Afghanistan, Amanda + Kjirk hadn’t seen each other in 10 months – until the day before their wedding! Talk about a pretty emotional wedding! They filled their wedding day with the things they loved + were truly passionate about.

From Amanda, “As far as design, I was inspired by the juxtaposition of mixing such modern, clean lines with loose and organic textures. The reception venue is so clean and modern, while the flowers are wild. I loved that. I also wanted guests to feel as if they were at a formal dinner, with place settings and menus, but also feeling comfortable enough to converse with other guests and take their shoes off to dance. We wanted everyone to have a fun time!”

Thanks so much to Megan Robinson for the photos and congrats to Amanda + Kjirk!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

This is so hard! All of it was so amazing. Since the day before was the first time we had seen each other since his 10 month deployment in Afghanistan (and over 11 months apart), just the simply joy of being together felt overwhelmingly amazing. It was in all the little moments during the day. Small moments while getting ready where I felt ultimately blissful. The happy tears and heartfelt vows in our ceremony. The glances he would give me during our reception. Being in a room filled with every person we both love most in the world...

I think, though, that the moment we were announced husband and wife and walked back down the aisle with sprinkles being tossed. I think I have never been so happy in my life. All stresses of the ceremony were gone, and I knew we were about to enjoy the greatest party. I hadn't even cleared my view of guests when I threw off my veil and shoes. And we just laughed, smiled and kissed and couldn't believe our happiness.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Stick to your guns. If you are passionate about your wedding planning, stick to what you both want. Often times, other people have different ideas for your wedding and it's easy to start caving in to please them. Have an open mind and open ears. Be kind. But if ultimately, it's not how you both want it, it's ok to not comply. It's worth it in the end.
