A few weeks ago a select number of wedding vendors got together to create a lovely shoot at one of the most romantic locations I’ve seen – and it’s in Maui. I love Maui, not only is it a beautiful island, but it is also where I got engaged! So, Maui will always have a special place in my heart. :) If you are thinking of an island wedding – or maybe this will change your mind – you need to check out the Haiku Mill (also featured in our Top 26 Coolest Places to Get Married).
The team for this shoot included Evonne Wong of Events by Evonne in Maui who found the spectacular location. Nancy Liu Chin provided the tropical florals. Peculiar Pair Press did the invite graphic + layout and Anne of Mira Aster did the finishing work on them. The custom hand-drawn map was done by Stephanie Barba of Couture Maps. The stunning photography is by Kevin Chin.
The Haiku Mill, located on Maui’s North Shore is a refurbished sugar mill from the old days of Hawaii. It’s actually a Hawaiian historical landmark because it was one of the first sugar mills built in 1853. This is one of Maui’s most scenic and historic private estates that is available for hosting weddings for up to 100 guests. The stones from the ruins make up part of a lush botanical garden. It is a breathtaking location!
Nancy Liu Chin made the beautiful floral arrangements incorporating the local tropical flowers of Maui. Anne, of Mira Aster, wonderfully interpreted the Aloha spirit in her invitations. Notice the hand stitching along the edges. Anne also hand cut all of the flower patterns on the invitations. Such a pretty tropical look.
The gorgeous couple Rachel + Michael in the Cane Cottage which is used for the changing area for the wedding day. This is seriously the prettiest changing room I’ve seen!
The Haiku Mill seems to magically transform itself at night when all the lights come on. I can see how beautiful it must be to get married here. The mill’s brick flooring, walls of moss and foliage, crystal chandelier, unique fountains and statues make this one of the most charming, dramatic and unique sites I’ve ever seen. This wedding location is enclosed, yet open to the sky.
Kevin also shared this video he took. It gives a better idea of what went into the shoot and the gorgeous location. Thanks to everyone involved for sharing your talents with us today! I’m ready to take a trip back to the islands. :)
Gorgeous pictures!! Maui is definitely beautiful!! I love living here :)
xx Love & Aloha,
S
Gorgeous! I love the vibrant tropical colors juxtaposed with the antique setting.
We have always wanted to do a wedding there! So gorgeous! Great job!
That is absolutely beautiful! I especially love her dress, how simple but elegant it is.
xo
Very nice. They look so relaxed! I love her dress and the flowers! Perfect for Maui!

ALOHA!
Wow. Wow. Wow. WOW!!!! I LOVE this wedding. Oh my goodness, oh my goodness.
Awesome photos and I love the video. So much vibrant colors. I love it
Love it! Looove the dress! And love your blog! Definitely my favorite! (and I've seen a lot being married for 13 years now). The setting reminds me of Brazil. You should come check it out. You'll love it too!
I love these colors – nice for brightening up this gloomy day!
Dear Fans…It's my fault but we forgot to mention that Peculiar Pair Press did the invite graphic and layout. I believe that Anne of Mira Aster did the finishing work….Nancy Liu Chin
ps Thanks for the all the comments. I "heart" it too….
In 2011, I have plans of doing my sabbatical there….I hope it happens.
Rosa – I think I would love Brazil and hope to travel there someday soon!
Nancy – I updated the post to include Peculiar Pair Press. Thanks for the heads up.
I found really nice wedding favors and bridal accessories at Favors Depot, and they're cheap. It's at http://www.favorsdepot.com – they have everything you need, about 5,000 products
wow, the bride and her dress are incredibly sexy!
Nancy, if you do your sabbatical here on Maui, let me know! :)
Mahalo for a beautiful Hawaii post!
It's a treat to see wedding in the islands. The Mill is gorgeous…it makes me think of the movie Great Expectations.
This is where I got married. Absolutely gorgeous. Great blog!
You are very lucky Mary S. I have been very fortunate to photograph weddings all over the world and the Haiku Mill is my absolute favorite location!
Jen
You are so kind to feature this wedding that truly was one of a kind. Who knew that Maui had this hidden treasure. Most couples think that the Islands are about the beach so this is a unexpected beauty.
Thanks for the correction. Integrity to craft shows in your blog. Love, N
Jen – thank you so much for posting this! I will be shooting an event at the Haiku Mill tomorrow… can't wait!
This wedding inspiration has the sweetest photo ever! I love the cute couple too.
Amazing…
where is this dress from?
It's almost TOO perfect and too gorgeous to be believed. When Hollywood produces something that visually stunning,it takes weeks of preparation and
hoards of crew. Amazing!
this place is gorgeous!!
love the whole theme!
dang! gorgeous!!!!
Ron, you crack me up. You won't believe this but it really was done with no advance storyboard other than Evonne's inspiration board. Anne and Amy did all the prep work on the invites. And I was inspired by Honeydew, Mango, Papaya, and Cantaloupe…The color palette became less pastel and more vibrant given what I could find from the flower vendor who actually sent me the wrong colors – but hey – it worked. The location and the couple really inspired us. They just were naturally in love and it shows. One good thing – since I was there, you can't see the mosquitos that were biting all of us. Thank God for that….
OMG, this brings back SO MANY MEMORIES…I too got married at Haiku Mills. It the BEST wedding location: Initmate, remote, fantasy-like and just plain perfect.
Kevin Chin, that cinematography is captivating! With the Haiku Mill as the backdrop and your direction, skill and talent, hummm… thank you!
Weddings on islands have their own charm. When the natural scenery and the couples are sweet , then how can the pictures be bad? They are very nice.
I just LOVE the dress the bride is wearing. Who makes it? Please let me know as I am looking for something similar for my own wedding. Thanks!
OMG….this is INCREDIBLE! so so gorgeous….I’m gonna need to renew my vows here at some point! LOVE IT!
