Magical Desert Wedding with Pops of Color + Personality – Part 2

Eclectic DIY Desert Wedding

This morning we showed you Part 1 of Dana + Evan’s creative, desert wedding day and we’re so excited to show you Part 2! These two were super hands-on with the details (Evan built the ceremony backdrop, stage, lobby bar, photo wall, AND personalized wooden gift boxes for the wedding party – phew!), but they knew where to ask for help. They called on close friends and connections to lend their talents in coordinating, hair + makeup, design, bartending, officiating, and set up + breakdown.

Dana shares, All were so giving and contributed to making the event so personal.

Let’s jump into Part 2 with stunning photos by E.P. Love!

Okay, Wes Anderson fans: are you ready for this?

We originally intended for a Royal Tenenbaum photo booth only but then Crosby + Jon Design came along and wowed us with their ideas to make each station a Wes Anderson movie vibe. It was very subtle, which we loved. The main areas were the Royal Tenenbaum photo booth/lounge and the Grand Budapest Bar station, where guests came up to get a drink and were also given a key to find a seat. The welcome area was Moonrise Kingdom, the ceremony had a Fantastic Mr. Fox vibe, and desserts were Darjeeling Limited.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Instead of going into our first dance, my bridesmaid, matron of honor, and me all came out to surprise Evan and sang "Marry Song" while my mom played guitar. He cried and loved it so much. Then, when the song was almost over, we had our first dance while the girls finished the song and I sang into his ear as we danced.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Lean on your friends and connections (this helped us so much)! Give yourself so much longer to plan than you think, especially if you’re bringing everything yourself. Don’t wait to do the seating chart! Try to delegate more. Know what everything costs. Being a photographer, I thought I was aware of everything in the wedding industry but there were some big budget surprises. I really believe you can afford everything you want by making certain sacrifices or saving up for a year! While most couples spend the most on dinner, we decided to spend the most on our photographer and cinematographer because that is what is most important to us. And we had a delicious taco cart because who doesn’t love tacos?!

And don’t forget to check out their fun wedding video from David Matthew Fiser!

We couldn’t think of a more fun way to celebrate! Big congrats to Dana + Evan!
