Intimate, Vintage-Inspired Vermont Wedding: Erin + Mike

Vintage Vermont Wedding

Adorable newlyweds, Erin + Mike, recently hosted the dreamiest, vintage-inspired wedding at beautiful Shelburne Farm in Burlington, Vermont – and we’re pretty sure their day is the perfect way for us to wrap up the week on the loveliest note! Erin is a floral designer, operating the amazing studio, Nectar and Root, and therefore DIY’d all of the day’s event design + florals. While we’re always impressed by a handmade soiree, the unique decor and truly jaw-dropping blooms Erin incorporated (think apple blossoms, quince, peonies, garden roses, bleeding hearts, eucalyptus, and spirea) seemed to go the extra mile and really helped make her and Mike’s wedding setting beautifully one-of-a-kind.

Erin explains, The venue and our intimate circle of friends and family provided so much inspiration for our day. It was important for us to have a small wedding, so that we could be present throughout the day and get a chance to connect with everyone there. We also had an unplugged wedding for the same reasons. The rich and muted colors in the various rooms at the inn, the victorian atmosphere (my favorite time period), and the season of spring flowers were all aspects I wanted to celebrate and highlight for everyone to enjoy. I made two bridal bouquets because I couldn’t decide on just one for myself, and I also made all of my own floral designs for the wedding with the help of my bridesmaids for the ceremony decor.

Sounds so amazing, right? So, it’s probably no big surprise that we’re pretty excited to share the lovely images Jacquelyn Potter captured of the day!

The floral goodness starts right now and, lucky for us, only gets better from here!

Major love for the bridesmaids’ leaf + rose bouquets. A perfect match for their ASOS dresses, too.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Erin: The most memorable part of the wedding day was our ceremony, which is now something I have a whole new appreciation for at weddings. As someone who is a professional wedding floral designer, it was truly a treat to have my maid of honor, my sister, and two more bridesmaids create a surprise ceremony setup with flowers I had picked out for them to use however they wished. Seeing what they put together for us when I walked down the aisle and having Mike recount during his vows the first night we met in the pouring rain, while a thunderstorm broke all around us on the cozy ceremony porch, was so special and memorable. Holding hands with Mike next to the lilacs later after the storm was over and hearing two of my bridesmaids read Frank O’Hara’s ‘Having a Coke with You’ was also incredibly emotional and poignant, as was having the father daughter dance with my dad.

Mike: The ceremony was the most memorable part for me too. I was speechless when I saw Erin walk down the aisle. Also, I included my late friend as one of my groomsmen, and it was a powerful moment for me to recognize his continued presence in my life.

Isn’t Erin’s Rue de Seine wedding dress the most beautiful thing? We simply adore its vintage feel, lace sleeves and low V-back detail.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Erin: Don’t be afraid to be unconventional and to make the wedding an expression of who you both are as a couple. Enjoy the experience and be present as much as possible. Embrace the inevitable hiccups and have fun. Choose vendors whose work and personalities you love, and enjoy trusting them to follow their instincts as artists and as professionals. You will be spending a lot of time with these individuals, either on your wedding day or throughout the planning process (or both). Be proud of the fact that by choosing your team of wedding vendors with intention, you are supporting many local artists and businesses, and helping others to create a livelihood for themselves doing something they love.

Mike: Don’t make choices under pressure from anyone. It’s okay to be yourself on your wedding day, even if that means throwing tradition out the window.
