Intimate, Vintage-Inspired Big Sur Wedding: Amelia + Jonathan

Intimate Big Sur Wedding

Two words best describe Amelia + Jonathan’s woodsy wedding in Big Sur, California: intimate + genuine. Designed by Amelia’s boss at Fineas + Clover, the day exuded a natural, relaxed vibe that focused on mood + feeling instead of tangible details like flatware + escort cards. The vows were witnessed only by close family members, the ceremony site yielded a pretty epic view, and we love how each, little moment was captured beautifully by Nicole Mason! Let’s hear a bit more from A + J about the day:

Initially we spoke about an elopement and had planned on a courthouse ceremony with just the two of us. Following our engagement we spoke with friends of ours who had hired a photographer to document their romantic elopement in Portugal and we decided then that we wanted to document the day so we could share with family and friends through photographs that painted a picture of the various moments.

As we mentioned above, the day was filled with meaningful moments + thoughtful details. Everything included was personal on some level. Amelia’s dress was handmade by her best friend from elementary school (Van Hoang Designs), her boss from work crafted the gorgeous flowers, and Jonathan, who’s a barber in LA, did Amelia’s hair!

Amelia shares, Being creative people, having a beautiful, picturesque backdrop quickly became a priority for us. We both had a desire to spend time in Big Sur as we had always admired the natural beauty of this region of Northern California. We soon found an adorable cabin to rest our heads, a breathtaking cliffside to say our vows and a restaurant with delicious local fare to consume so naturally, we knew at this point the day wouldn’t be the same without our immediate families. We vowed to one another that no matter what, the day would remain about the two of US. We planned the wedding together, got ready together and entered into our marriage just as our relationship had begun from day one – two parts coming together as one.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

It was a remarkable day from the moment we woke up to the moment we ended the night with a high five back at our lodge. On the way to the ceremony we took time to cruise down Highway One, sitting in the back of a beautifully restored Vintage Rolls-Royce breathing in the crisp fall air, holding hands and letting it all sink in. It was a special moment for us as from the moment we met we knew we completed one another. And here, among the trees and the dim sunlight,we thanked one another for giving each other the promise of forever.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Keep it small, stick to a budget and get married during the week. We planned our wedding via emails and phone calls – up until the day before we had only seen our ceremony site in pictures (crazy, right). For us the day was all about our promise and the start to our lives – the cake topper, table settings and other details were so insignificant in the scheme of our love story. But we didn’t do it alone, our family and friends helped tremendously and the most beautiful details that made our day unforgettable were possible because of their efforts and of course Etsy (which quickly became our lifesaver: We’re talking invitations, Cake Topers, Cake cutting set, Sparklers – every detail made possible by Etsy!)
