Kimmy + Sebastiaan met 7 years ago while Sebastiaan was traveling between Colorado and Amsterdam to ski. Kimmy, born and raised in Colorado, and Seb, born and raised in the Netherlands, fell in love long-distance, clocking in over 30 flights back and forth between the two far-away places. Seb finally decided to make the move to the states and, shortly thereafter, the two were engaged + planning a wedding! Knowing they wanted an adventurous destination wedding, but unable to decide on the perfect place, K + S took a suggestion from Kimmy’s brother – Iceland – and the rest just fell right into place.
Kimmy tells us about how they made the day a perfect match for them, We decided to put everyone else’s wishes behind us and do EXACTLY what we wanted. We are really laid back and wanted the whole day to feel that way. We had everyone bring beers to the beach for the ceremony and served Cheeseburgers at our reception. It was perfect and very ‘us.’
Big thanks to Lindsey Boluyt Photography for the stunning captures below!
Loving Kimmy’s wedding day look? We sure are! She is rocking a skirt by Sarah Seven and cropped lace top by Stone Cold Fox Bridal. Too good!!
I would probably say it had to be the night before. We got everyone together for a little cocktail/pizza party and after headed out to find our ceremony spot. I know, I know we literally found it the night before at 12:30am none the less. The sun barely sets in Iceland so it was just light enough for us to find the spot. I remember walking down to the beach hand in hand laughing about how last minute we were. It was the only part of the trip that we were alone together and it was perfect.
Processional: Stay Alive – Jose Gonzalez
Recessional: Lazy Eye – Silversun Pickups
First Dance: Roslyn, St. Vincent and Bon Iver
Kimmy + Sebastiaan voted against a traditional American wedding cake, deciding that a traditional Icelandic wedding cake from Sandholt Bakery was more fitting. (Looks so yummy, right?!)
Stop stressing out! It will all come together in the end. We got rid of all the unnecessary stuff and I couldn't be happier that we did that. Doing a destination wedding is tough but you just have to trust the people on the other end. Shoutout to Bödvar at Kex who was our saving grace!
