Intimate Fall Colorado Wedding: Keely + Aaron

Colorado Mountaintop Wedding

When you’re in the wedding industry AND planning your own big day, like Keely, the bride from today’s gorgeous wedding, you’ve definitely taken more than a couple mental notes from the many weddings you’ve attended. When she said, It’s almost overwhelming all the things that you can do to make your wedding unique and different and beautiful, we could totally understand where she was coming from. So with that, and being on a budget of about $7000, she and her now-hubby, Aaron, got inventive with DIY-ing their decor while simultaneously keeping things simple. Below, they share more about their epic location + throughout the post, we’re sharing more about how they made their beautiful day unique to them!

Aaron and I met in Colorado, where he’s from, so it’s always had a special place in our heart. We feel pretty at home in those mountains. Getting married right in the midst of that magnificent view was the most special thing in the world. That’s why it took us so long to find a ‘venue’… We knew we didn’t want a regular venue, where a bunch of people have gotten married before. We wanted something that could be unique to us, but inspiring. As soon as we stepped foot onto that trail that led to our wedding spot, we knew it was THE place.

And once you see David Matthew Fiser’s stunning images from the day, it’s easy to see why K + A chose this incredible spot for their I Dos…

Keely co-designed her amazing dress with the help of designer Leslie Pennel. Love that she even found appliqué’s from a vintage wedding dress that they sewed onto the back – such a fun touch!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Some of our favorite memories consist of when we were taking photos. David was the best possible photographer we could have chosen, and made our day 100 times better. It felt like we were with a long time friend the whole time. When he took us away for portraits before and after the wedding, it felt like the only time we felt truly at peace and stress free. The whole wedding day was a bit stressful, but getting whisked away amongst beautiful scenery and getting to just cuddle and get lost in each other in front of the camera was so wonderful. Right after the ceremony, we drove down this insane mountain as MARRIED PEOPLE. It was the most amazing moment to take a breath and realize, wow, this is it. We are finally married. This is the best. We loved it. Having my little sister walk me down the aisle was also really amazing. It was just precious to walk hand in hand with her to my groom, who she also adores. That stunning backdrop, my perfect groom, it couldn't have been better. Seeing him shed a tear about made me want to run to him as fast as possible, too. I was so ready to just cuddle him and get married. The entire ceremony was really my favorite part.

We collected different brass items for those few months and decorated our tables with those and fresh greenery and flowers. We wanted to keep things simple and more natural + rich colors, and mostly focus on the crazy beautiful scenery around us.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Don't fall into a pinterest trap. Don't overthink it. Unless that's your style, then absolutely. Pinterest your heart out. I guess what I'm trying to say is... stick true to you. Your wedding is an outward reflection of your love and the two of you, leave it at that. If that means going in your backyard and having a simple wedding, please do that. If that means inviting 600 of your friends to have the biggest party ever, then do that. But always make your focus be on the love the two of you share. The photographer in me wants to remind everyone that you will only have beautiful memories of your day if you hire an incredible photographer to document it. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the small details, the things that don't last beyond that day. So make sure you get someone wonderful that will encapsulate those details forever. Also, put all of your expenses on a credit card that you'll pay off to get some air miles. I so regret not doing that!
