Intimate Black Church Wedding in Iceland: Jen + Jacob

Icelandic black church wedding

There’s something about the beauty of Iceland that seems unmatched by anywhere else. We’ve shared a handful of gorgeous weddings + elopements there (see the most recent here, here, and here) and today we feel lucky to share yet another – Jen + Jacob’s stunning destination celebration at Hótel Búðir on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The wedding was sweet, intimate + simple. All of the decor included was able to fit into a couple of suitcases on the plane + not much was needed anyway. The mossy, rocky hillside with just two small buildings (a hotel and a little black church) was a breathtaking enough scene in its own right. Jen + Jacob enjoyed their time with their friends and family while getting ready and set up their own reception area together, just an hour before they walked down the aisle. It was as laid-back + beautiful as it gets and the incredibly talented Mary of Floataway Studios captured it all to perfection. For other couples planning a destination wedding in a far-off locale, be sure to read the blurb below from Mary:

For Jen and Jacob, we [Mary and her husband JP who created the gorgeous film you’ll see at the end of this feature!] traded travel for work. We had never been to Iceland but it was at the top of our list. We know it is so expensive to not only hire a wedding photographer and videographer you love to capture your wedding, but then to add travel on top of that? We just knew we had to help make this work. This is something that we would do for every one of our couples if we didn’t need money to survive but we do want to offer this opportunity for 3 couples next year in 2015. If anyone is looking to bring out a photographer and videographer to their destination wedding, we would LOVE to have them apply for our trade for travel opportunity. As you pay for our travel and accommodations, we will document your wedding celebration in trade for that. No tricks. Just a couple in love traveling to capture people in love all around the world…what we love to do.

Such an amazing offer right!?! And now onto J + J’s Icelandic wedding…

Mary shares, It was amazing since during this time of the year it was light out for 21 hours of the day. We had a few chances to sneak away with Jen and Jacob to capture them in the Iceland backdrop. Golden hour happened around 10pm and we all looked at each other during dinner and got up and headed back outside. Jen also arranged for a horse to come around the time of the ceremony but unfortunately the horse was running late. It eventually arrived around 11pm. The time of the day did not stop us from heading back out in the mist and cold to take pictures with this beautiful creature. Icelandic horses are unlike any other horse.
