Honeymoon at El Dorado Maroma in the Riviera Maya

El Dorado Maroma

A few months ago, Jason and I were lucky enough to be hosted for a few days at the El Dorado Maroma, A Beachfront Resort, by Karisma in the Mexican Riviera Maya. We’ve shared lots of amazing places to honeymoon but this is our first all inclusive resort we are featuring. Now let’s get this out of the way. Jason + I aren’t the biggest fans of all inclusive places. We stayed at one other in the past and the food + drinks were so, so disappointing. Since one of our favorite things to do when traveling is experience the local food, we were a bit nervous about this stay. Well, this resort is advertised as a gourmet inclusive and let me tell you, the food was AMAZING! Seriously so good. Looking at the photos again I’m reminded about all the yummy food and am now missing our stay at E; Dorado Maroma!

The resort is an adults only resort (which makes for the pool + beach time to be super relaxing) and is located on the renowned Maroma Beach, which is considered by many to be one of the top ten beaches in the world! A good portion of the rooms have either a swim up suite or private infinity pool too – super romantic!

Our favorite meal each day was breakfast by the pool.  As you would expect, they offer lots of Mexican – my fave was the Huevos Divorciados and Jason loved the scrambled eggs with Poblano style mole sauce (he still talks about that as the best mole sauce he’s had whenever we eat Mexican). With an all inclusive reservation, you don’t have to worry about bringing your wallet or tips, it’s all taken care of which is super nice. Lots of yummy drinks to choose from by the pool – there are two pools and each have a swim up bar! For dinner you can choose from a few restaurants: Asian, New Mexican Caribbean (our favorite!), and Italian. The Asian restaurant was really good with yummy sushi + teppanyaki dishes.  The standout dinner spot for us was the New Mexican Caribbean restaurant (Sabores) – I mean, when in Mexico, right? :)

The first day there we saw this super cute Mexican tejón! He walked right up to our table!! So cute and friendly although he reminded us of a raccoon. :)

Tequila Tasting

The resort offers lots of different daily activities including cooking lessons, yoga, snorkeling and more. We participated in the Tequila Tasting one day which was pretty fun. We got to try about 8 different tequilas and learn about the different types. We also had some relaxing massages right on the beach which is always a win-win in my book! :)

Birds on Poles

If you are looking for a relaxing honeymoon where you don’t have to worry about decisions, can enjoy great food, lounge by the pool and swim in the ocean, then I think El Dorado Maroma, A Beachfront Resort, by Karisma would be an excellent choice! You can also do day trips to Playa del Carmen. If you’re here for a week, I’d recommend checking out Tulum and the town of Playa del Carmen. I loved both when I visited them on another trip. You can also schedule adventure tours with the resort (I did one of these on my other trip – so fun!) where you can zipline, kayak, snorkel, swim in cenote and explore the jungle. Lots to do here! Oh, and another bonus, Virgin Airlines (our fave airline) flies into Cancun – Cancun is the airport you will fly into and it’s about a 45 min ride from the airport. Thanks so much to the El Dorado Maroma, A Beachfront Resort, by Karisma for hosting us and we are already dreaming of when we can visit again!
