Home Tour: A Converted Factory in Germany Turned Modern

Are you ready for a major dose of inspiration? Because today’s home tour definitely highlights a cool, industrial monochrome palette with urban vibes and will very likely make you want to redecorate… Or at the very least, pin a bunch of these “modern/industrial/monochrome” images! Without further ado, welcome to Petra + Eddie’s home! The couple has lived all over the world — from Paraguay, Canada, and France, to now back in Germany. Their home is filled with furniture and accessories from their life and the different countries they’ve lived in.

The couple shares We picked a monochrome scene a long time ago and find the items matching just fine. Our days are busy and we love coming home to a calm + serene space. We don’t want a “perfect” home; our things are old, used, vintage, flea market finds and childhood furniture collected over many years, combined with classics and new furniture. When we got married, we had no money, so we sourced markets long before “vintage” was a trend. We love the lived in feel and the memories of everything.

Petra + Eddie just so happen to be photographers (they’ve got a keen eye for detail, naturally), so today’s home tour was photographed by them – Wertvoll Fotografie! Ready for the grand tour? Let’s look!!

What advice do you have for couples currently designing their home?

We converted an old factory. For us light was important and functionality. The things you spend the most money on should be timeless. That’s why we choose a white wall color, no tiles in the bathroom but a waterproof finish in the shower, and a light grey (bounces more light) concrete floor with ground heating. We demoed for a month and an architect was still needed to help with the building site and all the plans. Every day when we came back to the construction site, new things had developed or problems arose. But we really sunk into the space, letting the original layout of the factory guide us and knew that it was okay to change our minds in the process.

We asked Petra how they incorporated items from their wedding day in their design. She shares We used a lot of “big type” in our décor, so types + different fonts are still something you see all over our place.

When the couple travels around Europe by car, they make sure to go to flea markets  — in fact, they bought that letter P from one in Paris! They’ve got an assortment of knick-knacks from around the world: a vintage bed from Canada, cinema chairs from Berlin, a leather chair from London. We think these kind of souvenirs are the best! Oh and that table? Eddie built it + some of the shelves out of the old factory floor boards!
