Hanging Paper Cranes and more!

Remember this wedding with the gorgeous paper cranes they hung form the trees? (first pic below also) Well, after my post the other day I was thinking about this again and how much I loved the idea of hanging paper cranes – hanging paper anything actually! There is an old Japanese legend that folding one thousand paper cranes and you will be granted a wish – I love this.

Hanging paper cranes works for an outdoor wedding, a modern wedding in a loft space, or even a barn wedding. There are lots of ways you can incorporate them to work with your theme. You can choose different colors – all white, mix two colors, origaimi paper, newspaper, even magazines! So many options. You can string them with fishing line, twine, or white string. Here is an easy tutorial to make the cranes and here is one with some hints to help string them. And if you start doing this early, you can work on these while you watch tv at night – or have a party and have a bunch of your friends over – I helped a friend with this. It was fun and we got a bunch done in one night.

You don’t have to limit it to cranes either. What about hearts or butterflies or even birds? If you don’t want to have 1000 for the Japanese tradition, what about creating a heart for every day you and your fiance have been together? I think that would be super sweet. Is anyone planning on hanging paper cranes, or hearts, or something else at their wedding?
