Handmade Geometric Wedding: Lindsay + Brian

bride and groom

Lindsay + Brian love saturated colors and hard-edged, geometric design, so they made sure to include those elements in their personal, handmade wedding. They were married in Denver, Colorado where it is legal to marry yourselves – so they did just that for their ceremony! They each wrote their own vows and then married themselves – so perfect. They also  handmade almost all of the decor and kept the guest list small to just their closest friends + family for a more intimate wedding. Thanks so much to Happy Confetti Photography for the photos and congrats to Lindsay + Brian!

Lindsay + Brian have been dating since they were both 15 years old (excluding a one year hiatus in college). They attended the same high school, went off to different colleges, did the long-distance thing for a couple years, and finally settled in Denver six years ago. They recently moved to Austin where Brian is pursuing his PhD in philosophy and Lindsay teaches art history at the community college. Despite their new locale, they decided to get married in Denver as that is not only where the majority of their friends + family reside, but it is also where their relationship really came into its own. From Lindsay, “Planning a wedding in a different state than the one where you reside has some inherent hurdles, but in the end it was really rewarding.”

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

1. Saying our vows during the ceremony. I knew I was going to be emotional (I cry at seriously everything. I’m such a sap!), but I didn’t know how profoundly uttering my vows and hearing Brian say his in front of our friends and family would affect me. It was easily one of the most meaningful moments of my life.

2. Showing up to the boathouse and seeing not only our dear friends who coordinated the event, but our parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, and old friends all pitching-in to help get the reception site ready. It was so moving to see everyone come together as a team to support us and make our day beautiful. We felt very lucky and very loved.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Be true to yourselves. You’ll find that everyone, and I mean everyone, has an opinion on what makes for a good wedding. Advocate for the things that are most important to you, but be willing to make some concessions in regards to the smaller details.
