Do we have any big Game of Thrones fans out there? Betting we do! And today’s gorgeous wedding inspiration, from the insanely talented Clayton Austin, is for you! Filled with a stunning, rich color story, subtle touches of beautiful metallics, dense, luxurious florals + the prettiest Medieval vibe there could ever be, we’re sure super fans, as well as those of you have have never seen the show, will find yourselves in awe + inspired!
From Clayton, As a huge Game of Thrones fan I really wanted to do this inspiration shoot justice. The key for me was to not take it too literally. It’s very important to me that the inspiration be applicable to couples and grounded in reality. In the end I thought that it was the smaller details such as the pewter chargers and cups that would draw from the world of Westeros without being too kitschy. For me it was the color palette that was the real focal point with rich shades of burgundy, plum, and ochre drawing from the colors of the House Lannister of Casterly Rock.
Clayton not only captured the idyllic setting, but staged it, too! The fact that he handled the florals, prop, and wardrobe styling blows our minds! Bravo, Clayton! We love your wedding superpower skills!
This tablescape would easily translate to any couples who are planning a romantic, vintage-inspired affair. And the palette couldn’t be more perfect for fall or winter weddings!
Beautiful, right? Anyone out there loosely (or not!) basing their wedding styling around Game of Thrones? We’d love to hear! Thank you again, Clayton, for sharing this stunning inspiration with us today!
photography, styling + floral: Clayton Austin // dress: vintage // groom’s suit: Vera Wang
just missing a bit of death ;)
Lovely; reminds me of the story of Rhaeger and Lyanna in the books.
Beautiful color scheme and vintage vibe, doesn’t say GOT at all though. Would have loved to see some hints of the show/books!
Agreed. We’re incorporating small GoT details into our wedding – groom is wearing a Stark sigil pin, best man wearing Hand of the King pin, tables named after houses (the Freys were NOT included!), etc. It would have been cool to see similar elements woven throughout this shoot. Otherwise like you said, absolutely gorgeous color palette and styling, but doesn’t connect much to the books or show.
Thanks for the amazing feature Jen! Im an avid GOT fan and had so much fun styling this shoot. Short, of unexpected deaths, swords, and dragons this is exactly how I would image an intimate Westeros wedding would be. :-)
How do I find this dress? oh my goodness it’s beautiful. <3
Great idea – very romantic and unique. There is something mystic and intimate. All decorations suit to this theme very good. Perfect idea for people, who don’t like noisy partys.
Game of Thrones lover or not, it’s definitely easy to love this wedding theme. Amazing photography!

romantic, awesome, i love this theme so much, give me the reference idea
How I want horses on my wedding day too :) amazing shoot!
Wow – GOT-inspired style shoots can easily drift in the tacky zone, but this one is definitely fabulous. Nothing too litteral, but the right dose of dark romanticism and nature-inspired props. Love it ! Thanks GWS for featuring it.
Ahhhh Clayton Austin – beautiful work as always my friend! Truly stunning.
Fantastic! No Game of Thrones weddings yet, but I did recently have a fantastic engagement shoot couple who have Game of Thrones themed rings: http://lizlui.com/stephanie-tim-greek-town-chicago-engagement-photography-session/
(scroll to the bottom for the rings – they are so cool!)
Love it!
Beautiful for sure… I would never in a million years think “Game of Thrones” looking at it though. Still pretty, but not in the least literary (to my eyes).
Everything about this shoot is to die for! That dress is so incredible! And I love the colors. Does anyone know where the glass/metallic drinking glasses came from? So beautiful!
Adore the red dress!
Love the color scheme of this shoot. The horses add such a gorgeous touch. Very romantic.
Love the romantic colors, so stunning! I feel that themed weddings are such a true expression of the couple and wish that they happened more often. Beautiful horse doesn’t hurt either!
