The benefit of knowing what you want? Knowing exactly what you don’t want. Carter + Emily wanted to celebrated the commitment of marriage…without the traditions. For them, that meant no wedding party, toasts, first dances, or something blue-s. Instead, this fun duo opted for fried chicken on paper plates, springtime blooms, vintage garments, and building a day that put their love for each other (and NOLA!) on full display!
Emily tells us a bit more: We are both in our mid-40s, getting married for the first time, and had the confidence to know what was important to us and what we could dispense with. We wanted a beautiful setting that evoked New Orleans: a new city for me, and the city where we fell in love. We wanted the food to be banging, our outfits to make us feel special, and our families to be involved. We wanted to bring our life in New Orleans together with our families who hail from opposite coasts and would likely never meet if not for this event. Our families got to hang out, put faces to names, and get stuffed silly with chicken and gumbo. We ate homemade cake and cupcakes, and at least 3 people fell into the bayou. It was a good day. Really, a perfect day.
Let’s see that perfect day, captured by Gurusurya Photography!
Emily + Carter have a deep love for all things vintage—they even met while both working on the 1960s period TV show ‘Astronaut Wives Club!’
Carter went with a sharp, vintage-inspired Mr. Turk Suit paired with an Eton Shirt that evoked the era.
As for Emily? She wore the cutest 1960s silver lamé mini-dress, discovered at the 11th hour thanks to a private vintage clothing dealer in New Orleans. Her classic updo and makeup by Karri Farris completed the look!
The simple ceremony was held at The Peristyle at City Park, where Carter’s uncle presided in front of 100 family + friends.
LOVE that pop of green for the aisle! Instead of using a runner or candles, they opted for an “organic” aisle, created by cypress tree clippings layered on the ground, and ending in a circle of eucalyptus boughs.
In keeping with the non-traditional vibe of the wedding, C+E had a diverse selection of flowers. Rather than stick to a strict color palette, they chose seasonal blooms that celebrated springtime!
Our floral designer, Mirabai Floral, discovered an amazing source for traditional Indian wedding garlands and we worked this into everything, from delicate jasmine blossom boutonnieres to the marigold strings that bedecked our car.
Emily wore a vintage Mexican ribbon dress for the reception that she’s owned and loved for years.
Even Emily’s love bug, Sheila, dressed up for the day!
How great are these colors?! How great are Carter + Emily?!
Such a blast! These two totally made their day unique and fun. So happy for you both, Carter + Emily! Congrats from all of us at GWS!
