Fashion + Beauty Trends for 2013 from The Knot Magazine

Today I’m super excited to share the cover shoot for the 2013 Fashion Issue of The Knot magazine captured by none other than Elizabeth Messina! The issue is on newsstands today and is full of lots of gorgeous fashion features including the one I’m sharing today. I’ve already had a chance to read through the issue and I think it’s one of their best! The Knot was even sweet enough to include a fun He Says, She Says story from Jason and I about Our Wedding Day! :) So fun to relive the day over again.

I’m sharing a bunch more photos from the stunning cover shoot that weren’t able to make it in the magazine – along with some fun details + behind the scenes stories from the artists involved! I always love hearing about what goes into a shoot, so I hope you all find it interesting also. :) Congrats again to the whole team and if you are looking for lots of fashion inspiration, be sure to pick up the issue this week!

From Erin Skipley who did the hair + makeup for the shoot
I’ve worked on the last four covers of The Knot and I have to say that they’ve pulled together an amazing editorial team. They are some of the most creative, savvy women in the industry who truly are leading the way for style conscious brides. I love working with them! Elizabeth Messina captures the ultimate femininity, her work inspires me so much.

One of the trends I love in hair and makeup this season is a neutral-monotone palette where eyes and radiant skin are the focus. To achieve this look, there a few no-fail products to have in your kit. Skin gets an instant boost with Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Primer and tinted moisturizer, Dior’s Celebration Collection palette is everything you need to accentuate eyes, and the perfect lip color to finish the look is ‘Lady’s Choice’ by Benefit. For hair, sleek chignons are in the forefront but I love seeing bridal hair worn in simple top-knots, soft side buns, or perfectly- imperfect, slightly tousled up styles.

From Jeni of Found Vintage Rentals:
Working on the cover shoot was a true blessing. There were an array of artists coming together for one purpose. I worked side by side creating vignettes with Steven Moore. Elizabeth tirelessly captured our details and then the models and then back again. She has a way of bringing light to life and capturing my collection with such elegance. My focus is always to create a cohesive environment with the use of vintage pieces and the character that each piece has. I love creating beautiful spaces that are warm, inviting and comfortable. Elizabeth has an amazing way of capturing these spaces. I am blessed to have been part of The Knot cover shoot.

From Steven Moore who created the gorgeous florals:
“It was a truly amazing experience to design the florals for the Knot’s spring fashion spread with Elizabeth Messina. The call time for a fashion shoot is pretty early… I think I arrived about 5am to start working on set. It really is exciting to see what happens behind the scenes and the high energy that every artist works with…. Makeup artists prepping the models, the stylist going through each gown and making a game plan, Messina thinking through every detail so that the shoot is a perfect mix of great lighting and beautifully styled models in fashion forward gowns. It is incredible to see how Messina has her eye on every component of the shoot. She floats around the set making suggestions to every artist involved, ensuring that every piece of the puzzle will fit together cohesively. The mood was positive, fast paced and focused, and everybody did their part to make it happen.

I had a small corner of the studio to work in, and I pumped out as many bouquets as I could. I designed a collection of mixed textural bouquets, along with another collection of bouquets that were simply one type of foliage bundled together. Although not as complex as the mixed bouquets, the simplistic style of these minimalistic bouquets were just as lovely and really allowed the gowns take center stage.”

From Myra Callan:
I am so honored and thrilled to have one of my designs [the veil] on the cover of The Knot! It is such an exciting feeling to see something I created on the cover of a publication that I’ve admired for many years. It’s funny to think that before my company, Twigs & Honey, was even conceived, I poured over the pages of The Knot magazine while planning my own wedding. Many years later, it’s a wonderful thing to be able to see my work on the pages of the same magazine that inspired many aspects of my own wedding and accessories line; It is like coming full circle.

When I discovered that my new bridal gown line, Myra Callan Bridal, was among the few selected as The Knot’s “One to Watch”, I nearly fainted. To be grouped in such a regarded selection of designers was the biggest compliment I could have received for my fledgling bridal gown line. In addition, it gives me great joy to be able to say that one of my dearest and most talented friends, Elizabeth Messina, was the photographer of the cover and floral/fashion spread. Elizabeth has been such an amazing support and cheerleader. What began as complete awe over her photographs has developed into an amazing friendship and partnership. Elizabeth and I have collaborated on countless shoots and projects and she has been an integral component of the Twigs & Honey brand. Having my work paired with Elizabeth’s and the amazing team behind The Knot is truly a dream and I could not be more thankful.
