Farm Wedding with Charming Red Details: Marcy + Dan

bride and groom

Marcy + Dan just really wanted to have a wedding day that would let them be their ridiculous selves and have the best time ever with their family + friends. Marcy’s sister came up with the name of the event as a combination of their last names – Lakerson2012 – and thus began their craze of customized Lakerson items. Marcy and Dan picked the things they like and the styles they’re drawn to without worrying about what anyone else thought. And that is always my advice to newly engaged couples for your wedding – do what the two of you want! So I’m happy to see that Marcy + Dan did just that. :) Thanks so much to Meghan of b merry events for the wonderful design, Eric Laurits for the photos, and don’t miss their super rad film by Sharkpig!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Marcy: Highlights for me include: (1) seeing Dan cry. Hah! It sounds so mean, but it's such a crazy feeling to watch someone express how they feel about you, it can't be described. (2) Seeing all our friends and family streaming to the dance floor as soon as DJ Jon played "Dancing Queen." (3) our siblings gave some epic toasts that had everyone cracking up and crying, I will never forget it!

Dan: Before the ceremony, seeing Marcy for the first time. I don't think I've ever felt that feeling, what do you call it, an emotion? Just kidding. Also, seeing all our best friends walk towards me down the aisle and stand up there with me while we waited for Marcy and her dad, stuffing my face with the most delicious food at cocktail hour and dinner, and most of all, getting to celebrate such an emotional day with the people we love most from all different parts of our lives.

Chelsea Densmore knocked it so far out of the park with the custom textile design for the bridesmaids’ dresses. I still wonder how she managed that based on my bizarro description of wanting something that looked like a red/white watercolor/acid trippy/possibly Tibi-inspired mirrored pattern. She took that and turned it into that pattern on the girls’ dresses.

My lovely and talented sister, Liz von Hasseln and her husband Kyle put countless hours of design work and execution into making the two layer, vellum and cardstock programs, laser-etched menu boards, laser-cut acrylic and letterpress save the dates, and laser-cut acrylic table numbers.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Write your own vows. If it's at all a possibility. Make people feel like they're witnessing something real. You will not be disappointed with the memories you get of everyone so filled with emotion (including yourselves). Hire the most amazing vendors you can find. We did not even consider the fact that these people wouldn't come through for us, we actually didn't worry for one second. We had the highest of expectations and every single one of them exceeded what we thought was capable of being pulled-off. Investing in memory back-up (i.e., photo/video) was crucial for us, and Eric Laurits and Sharkpig totally understood us and was above and beyond.

...and hire Meghan Torrieri. I have my full head of (non-graying) hair thanks to her. Utterly indispensable and such a total rock star. Lakerson2012 wouldn't have happened if not for this lady, period!
