Farm-to-Table Ranch Wedding: Chelsey + Jeff

Taber Ranch wedding

Chelsey + Jeff knew they wanted to bring their love of farmer’s markets and fresh food to their wedding day, so it wasn’t too difficult to dream up the details of their farm-to-table foodie theme. They quickly secured the design talents of Creative Ram, who worked their magic in branding the day with paper goods + signage that gave off an organic, authentic feel. And they worked with the talented girls at Artsy Heartsy to collaborate on all the little details and design elements that would bring their inspiration + ideas to life. The end result was a truly joyous celebration that felt personal + unique, but still down-to-earth. Let’s hear more about it from Chelsey:

Both of us are “transplants,” having grown up on the East Coast and then traveling the world before finding each other and deciding to call California our home. Two-thirds of our guests were coming from other states or countries, and many of them would be visiting California (or, us in California) for the first time. Because of this, we wanted our reception to provide an introduction for our family and our oldest friends to our life together in California. At the center of this introduction were the landscape of the Central Valley and all its bounty, and our community of talented friends. We stumbled upon and quickly secured a “rustic” ranch in the Capay Valley as our venue. The ranch showcased the beauty of the agricultural valley, and allowed us the flexibility to tailor all the details our way.

Thanks so much to Milou + Olin Photography for the beautiful photos and congrats and best wishes to Chelsey + Jeff!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

So much happened in such a short period, being prompted to remember the day never seems to generate the same set of memories. It’s as if each small memory blinks in and out; like fireflies twinkling across a field, you never see the same ones at any one time.

That said, the contributions made by others come to mind most often: our friend’s stunning photography, the processional band, the decor, the photo booth and custom props, and the last minute scrambles to make things work smoothly. The intangible gift that we will cherish forever was the sibling speeches. We more or less dispensed with best man/maid of honor tradition and asked our siblings to say something, instead. Both our families are rather introverted, and the outcome of sibling speeches seemed like a small gamble when we made the decision. But they were amazing! Their stories and witty (but gentle) accusations from the past were touching and, at the time, reminded us of everything we wanted for our future to bring.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

You don’t need an unlimited budget to celebrate in a memorable and fun way. Dresses don’t have to cost $1,000 and you can throw a fun dance party without a DJ. Guests will enjoy a big plate of homemade cookies and a tub of kettle corn just as much as an expensive wedding cake. If you’re working with a limited budget, make meaningful investments and look to your friends to donate their talents.
