Edwardian-Inspired Wedding in a Historic Gold Mining Town: Alexandra + William

Edwardian inspired wedding

We’re sure you can already tell that Alexandra + William’s wedding, captured beautifully by Hazelwood Photo, isn’t traditional in any sense of the word. And we have to say, that’s exactly why we love it so much! These two were wed at Alexandra’s family home which just so happens to be a colonial farmhouse built in the mid-1800s and located in the historic gold mining town of Jacksonville, Oregon. Pretty unreal, right? And not only was the location ultra amazing, but they encouraged their guests to join in on the fun + dress with Edwardian-era (~1900-1910) fashion in mind. This helped create an environment that really felt true to the time period + gave the wedding a unique sense of history.

We HAD to know more about Alexandra’s amazing, unique dress. And Sarah from Hazelwood Photo had all the deets, Alexandra wore an Edwardian-inspired custom gown designed and created by her aunt who sourced vintage fabric and lace as she traveled the world. She spent years traveling the globe sourcing vintage lace, buttons and fabrics from various countries in order to create the gown and it was made entirely by hand.

Sarah also spills, Apparently, during the Edwardian era the bride’s bouquet was more akin to a bush than floral buds, it was also quite large. Hence the large (and lovely) assortment of greenery Alexandra carried thanks to Penny & LuLu.

Alexandra tells us about the unique rings she + William exchanged during their ceremony, My ring belonged to Will’s great-great grandmother, Hilde Sandberg. Will’s ring, on the other hand, is made from raccoon bone (skull and bacculum), ground into a powder and cast in resin. It bears his initials, painted with ink made from my blood. The reception was, of course, also filled with all things unique! There was a cake parade, taxidermy, and an absinthe fountain. And since Alexandra + William are both neuroscientists, they incorporated items you would find in the lab throughout their wedding– test tubes for escort cards and beakers for their signature cocktails!
