Eco-Friendly Airplane Hanger Wedding: Caitlin + Steven

Wondering what Caitlin + Steven’s main motivation was for having their wedding at an airport? So Steven, a pilot, could fly away with his new bride right after the reception! Now that’s a getaway with some wow-factor! :) In addition to that, their wedding was filled with lots of fun DIY elements and so many thoughtful + personal details reflective of Caitlin + Steven. Here’s more from the adorable bride:

I am very detail oriented so it was important to me that everything be intentional + have a personal touch. I have some very artistic family + friends that made my dream come true! Over the year of our engagement, my mom + I collected bottles for the centerpieces and to serve water in. We collected vintage plates from resale shops + antique stores for the reception which also served as guest favors. Also, I gathered vintage handkerchiefs for the guests to have for the ceremony “for happy tears”.

We also wanted to reduce the footprint of the wedding as much as possible so all of the cups, napkins, wooden cutlery, table cloths, trash bags, etc. were recycled/recyclable and/or compostable/biodegradable. Even the trash cans were made of recycled cardboard!

Big thanks to Elisabeth Carol Photography for the lovely images + congrats to Caitlin + Steven!

A couple of my friends served as baristas for our Italian Cream Soda Bar at the reception…

And since Steven proposed on a picnic blanket at our favorite picnic spot + we often picnic with a gourmet cheese selection, we served our guests artisan cheese plates. We also both like to have fun like little kids, so we provided crayons to draw + color on the paper table cloths at the reception and Steven’s grooms cake was the shape of a lego with rainbow layers!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

From Caitlin: My favorite memory of the day is the first dance. I have been swing dancing for several years and wanted to be able to swing dance with Steven at the wedding. He had never previously danced, so he took lessons leading up to the wedding and nailed it! It was so much fun and a great surprise to Steven's family and friends that have never seen him dance.

From Steven: The moment I saw Caitlin walking down the aisle. I was overwhelmed and could hardly stand still to wait for her to get to me. I wanted to run to her and take her in my arms.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

I would advise you to keep it simple! You may think you need to invite the entire world for it to be a great party (or not to hurt anyone's feelings), but truthfully, but when the day comes, you really just want the people you're closest to around you to share the happy moment. Planning a huge wedding brings a lot more stress than reining it in to an intimate time with the people you love and that love you. It's hard at first when you're having to take a hack saw to the guest list, but it is worth it! NEVER forget the point of the whole day: You're marrying your true love! That is what lasts. Not the day itself. People will understand if you tell them you're having an intimate wedding with just family and very close friends.

Also, take an awesome honeymoon where you can just relax and have no pressure to go out and do things. You need time to recover and spend undistracted time together! It helps so go somewhere beautiful too. We went to Santorini, Greece which was a DREAM.
