DIY Marvimon Wedding: Angela + Eugene

bride and groom

Angela + Eugene are both designers by trade, so it’s no surprise that their gorgeous Marvimon wedding was chock-full of fun + personal details, handcrafted by the two of them! They drew inspiration from a variety of places including music, Wes Anderson films + their love of mid-century modern design. Here’s more from Angela about their day:

We wanted to be hands-on with the planning and styling in pretty much every aspect – from our website (angelapluseugene.com) to small details like the photo booth props. My husband’s style is more simple and modern, and I lean a little more towards vintage, so we tried to create a good balance of both while adding a touch of retro. Rather than having one general theme, we tried to incorporate our hobbies, personal styles, and things that are meaningful to us as a couple. Most of our props were flea market finds that we already (or plan to) use to decorate our home. We wanted the juxtaposition of all these things to be whimsical, cheerful, charming, and handcrafted while blending organically with the beautiful setting at Marvimon.

This wedding has so many great design elements, some of my personal faves being the playful paper goods + the “find your seat” buttons! Thank you so much to Erin J Saldana Photography for the lovely photos and congrats to Angela + Eugene!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

On top of the full Catholic ceremony and the Korean traditional ceremony during the reception, the day was jam packed with getting to and from multiple locations. So the moment that was most memorable to me was when we were finally able to catch our breaths together as we sat down at our sweetheart table for dinner and acknowledge to each other that we did it! We took that moment to appreciate the joyful sight of our loved ones all together in this beautiful venue, while songs from mixtapes we made for each other throughout our relationship played in the background. In that moment everything was perfect and details like nearly forgetting to wear my veil down the aisle were long forgotten. Of course greeting and chatting with our friends and family throughout the night was something we really enjoyed as well.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

If you plan to be a DIY bride, it takes a lot of time and commitment - more than you might already imagine. Even though I tried to start projects earlier throughout our engagement, I spent the entire last month or so deeply involved in creating decorations for the wedding like a crazy bridezilla. However, if you just remember to enjoy the process it will be rewarding and you will come to cherish the memory of that process. It’s a lot of work, but I absolutely don’t regret it at all. Do surround yourself with friends and loved ones and be open to their help and support even if you may think you can do it all yourself. I had many craft nights that turned out to be great bonding experiences with my girlfriends and family. Also, we highly recommend saving room in the budget for a month-of coordinator. Ours was just amazing and we can’t imagine what we would have done without her!
