I’m excited to share our first Floral DIY from our newest DIY contributor, Amanda of Anthomanic! Amanda is a talented floral designer based in Virginia and we are so excited to have her as part of the GWS team! Amanda will be sharing a lovely floral DIY every other month here on GWS that you can use for a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, wedding or just as a lovely accent in your home! I hope you will welcome Amanda and let’s see how to create her first project for GWS – a Greyed Jade Inspired Grapewood Centerpiece.
Supplies:
• (3) 2.5” OASIS floral foam Iglu’s, saturated with water [from your local florist or an online supplier]
• (1) 18-24” piece of sandblasted grapewood
• gardening shears
• (3) 6” pieces of OASIS Bind Wire [or pipe cleaners]
• 10 stems white peonies
• 3 potted succulents
• 1 bunch ‘Yearning Desert’ Amaranthus
Step 1:
Loop the wire through the Iglu’s and around the grapewood, twist the wire tightly to secure into place.
Step 2:
Remove the succulents from their pots, pull off the roots and soil, clean the stem, and cut on an angle. Push the succulent stem into the floral foam. Tip: Make a small hole in the foam first to make it easier to push the succulent into the foam without needing to apply much force as succulents are very brittle.
Step 3:
Trim peonies to a stem length of about 2”, cutting on an angle for easy insertion, then push into foam at least 1” to secure in place.
Step 4:
Cut stems of the amaranthus into 6-8” lengths and fill in empty areas around succulents and peonies.
And that’s it! So easy and such a pretty, modern centerpiece, right?!

Such beautiful green’s this year! Thank you!
Love this untraditional centerpiece, I’m a crafty person so this is something I’d like to try for my dining room table at home.
I’m loving DIY wedding ideas at the moment and this has a real rustic, beautiful quality to it. I can’t wait to try it out!
Thank you so much for the inspiration!
