Design Your Squarespace Wedding Website in 7 Simple Steps

Design Your Squarespace Wedding Website in 7 Simple Steps

Okay ladies, it’s time to cross “build wedding website” off your list once and for all. If just the thought gives you anxiety, rest assured. You’re in good hands because today we’re taking you through a step-by-step process that will make you feel like a coding pro–without even learning code–in no time!

You know we’re big fans of Squarespace, but let’s just give a quick recap: first, it’s an all-in-one service which means no software installations or worrying about security + storage limitations. Second, the designs are sleek + stylish, setting the tone for your big day. Also? Not only does Squarespace give you a platform for your love story, your wedding website a tool to keep track of RSVPs and provide guests with all the info they need for travel + registries, guaranteed to reduce your text queue and increase your peace of mind.

Ready to get started? Follow these 7 simple steps and you’ll be tackling that list in no time.

STEP 1. Choose from one of Squarespace’s Wedding Templates and sign up for your account.

No pressure here to choose the best template – Squarespace makes it easy to change templates at anytime!

We chose the Naomi template to display engagement photos and wedding day details via long, scrolling pages and beautiful elements.

STEP 2. Give your site a title.

Keep it simple, like the name of you + your fiancé, or “The [your last names here!] Wedding”

Once you’ve chosen a title (we picked the couple’s names), you’re new workspace will appear!

Step 3. Create your pages.

If the extent of your web-building knowledge is less than zero, don’t panic!! The process is simple and fun–promise! Start by clicking “Pages” from the left-side toolbar. We love the look of Naomi, so we’re just going to modify the pages already in place to personalize the content.

Click on the settings wheel next to the Home Index and choose “Create” from the pop up:

Do this for all the pages you’d like to duplicate until the demos are replaced with new, editable pages!

Step 4. Drop in the details.

Replace the images with your own, tell your story, add your date, and fill in all the wedding details!

Our favorite two features are the RSVP option and the registry. You can point your RSVP response form directly to your email address or a spreadsheet, keeping all your guest info up to date and in one place:

We LOVE the new integration with Zola for Squarespace. Just drop in the name of your registry and guests can shop right then, right there. *Hello, packages!*

Click the Zola block to add, then watch your registry items appear!

Step 5. Customize to your liking.

Want to change the fonts? Colors? Overlay on the photos? Simple. Navigate back to “Home” on the left-hand toolbar and select “Design,” then “Style Editor.”

You’ll see there are tons of ways to customize the look + feel of the site, but we’re going to stick to three things. First, the overlay of the photos was too dark, so we lightened it by scrolling to “Index Overlay” and adjusting the color tone:

Second, we wanted to adjust the fonts and colors. The simplest way to do this is to scroll through your site and click on the piece you’d like to adjust! This will bring up a selection of options directly related to that specific piece.

Wa-la! Font change. Quick design tip! Stick to 2-3 fonts and 2-3 colors to keep your site from looking messy or difficult to navigate.

A little something blue ;)

Step 6. Preview your site.

We’ll be honest, most people are going to view your site directly from their phones. Squarespace templates are made to look *amazing* on smart phones. Hover your mouse over the top of your workspace to get a preview of how your site will look on phone, tablet, and desktop!

Step 7. Make it live and share!

We created our Squarespace site in one, simple sitting. Want to see how the full thing turned out?! Have a look:

SO easy and (dare we say?) FUN. Now all that’s left to do is sit back and wait for those RSVP’s + gifts to come in…you got this.
