Cotton-filled Cali Barn Wedding: Heather + Freddie

Dana Powers Barn wedding

Today’s wedding is sure to inspire everyone who, like us, loves a good, rustic barn wedding! Heather + Freddie took it up a notch, though, by playing up the romance factor + incorporating lots of unique + fun details. Cotton was incorporated into the pretty florals and throughout the setting, handpicked vintage finds gave the space a cozy feel. Family + friends pitched in where they could, too: the ceremony backdrop was handmade by Heather’s aunt + her sister, Hillary, did the girls’ hair + makeup. Below, let’s hear a bit more from Heather about how she + Freddie kicked off the planning process:

I had found a venue in a Flea Market Style magazine and we fell in love with it when we checked it out. When we booked the Dana-Powers Barn (in Nipomo, California) we knew we wanted our day to be different from any other barn wedding. We wanted it to scream Heather and Freddie. Which meant everything had to come from an antique show/shop or look like it was old and falling apart! It’s how we roll.

Thanks so much to Mirelle Carmichael for these gorgeous photos and congrats to Heather + Freddie on a super pretty day!

And we LOVE the florals by April Flowers! Heather carried a lush bouquet filled with cafe au lait dahlias and lots of texture + the guys wore bouts made of cotton boutonnieres + greenery bits.

We think that little ‘vows’ book is one of the sweetest things! You can find it here or in the GWS Shop!

Heather told us one of the things she loves most about Freddie is that he is kind + generous and his laugh is contagious :) She also said she is grateful that he not only accepted her for who she is, but also welcomed her two boys into his heart with open arms. That’s what it’s all about!

We love, love the bridal party look. (But, really, can ya go wrong with breezy maxi for the girls + suspenders for the fellas?)

The handmade reception space H + F created looked like it was plucked right out of a fairytale. Heather tells us, All of our chalkboards and wood pieces were purchased at Remnants of the Past Antique show and were written on by me! We used old cash register numbers for our table numbers and window panes with handmade tags for our seating chart. Our guest book was a collection of our engagement photos gathered together in an album.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

My advice to brides who would like a similar wedding is...Be YOU! We got a lot of input from outside sources but we stayed true to our style and we loved every minute of it! Be sure to add personal touches that are special to you. We spend ALOT of time at Disneyland. Our welcome sign to our guests said "To all who come to this happy place...Welcome" which was a part of Walt Disney's speech on opening day. It was "us". Remember that this day is a day to represent who you are as a couple.

I found that I planned every detail about 9 months in advance. And when the time came...I wasn't stressed! Try to do as much as you can before all the partying begins!

Remember to enjoy it. Its only one day! Soak it all in and give lots of kisses to your new husband!
