Colorful Palm Springs Wedding: Charisse + Brett

Palm Springs Wedding

We’re kicking off this Wednesday in style because today’s fun wedding, featuring lots of papel picado, Mexican textiles, colorful carnations, and pops of cobalt blue, is so good we almost can’t take it! Charisse + Brett love traveling and spending time in Mexico + are drawn to the vibrant details of Dia de los Muertos. They wanted to infuse that feeling into their wedding day, and by working with the amazing team at Sitting in a Tree, they achieved their goal of making sure their beloved guests had a blast and felt comfortable throughout their celebration – and, bonus, everyone also felt like they had been transported right to Oaxaca, C + B’s favorite city in Mexico!

Charisse shares, We picked a private venue, La Chureya in Palm Springs, California, that had lots of natural beauty so everything felt very organic. We were particularly inspired by the vibrancy of Frida Kahlo’s home, Casa Azul. It was fun decorating the beautiful hacienda pretending like it was our own.

Big thanks to the talented Studio Castillero for sharing these absolutely gorgeous photos with us today!

Let’s talk about this dress + lace jacket for a sec! (Those sleeves!!) The dress is by Sarah Janks, from Lovely Bride NYC, and the jacket by Jaclyn Jordan NY. The end result was a perfect match for such a festive + fun wedding soiree!

During the reception, guests lingered around the venue’s garden + fountains, sipped yummy cocktails and munched on Mexican-inspired eats, and listened to Mariachi music by Mariachi Los Palmeros.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The most memorable moment was sitting down at our long communal table while the desert sun was setting and taking a moment to realize we were surrounded by all the people we loved the most. We were all gathered around one table sharing a family-style meal. It was completely surreal. We knew there would never be another opportunity to host our loved ones from New York, California, London, Hawaii and the Philippines all in one place. We were so overwhelmed with love and gratitude. I wish we could relive that moment a thousand times.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Keep things in perspective and stay true to yourself + your vision. Remember this is only one day in your entire lives and try to be as present as possible. Try to navigate every difficult decision with grace and gratitude (easier said than done, I know). People will always have their opinions of what a wedding “should” be. If you are less traditional, surround yourself with people who support those unique elements that make your vision different. At the end of the day, it’s supposed to be a fun party! If hiring a wedding planner is part of your budget, make sure you get one who is truly aligned with your concept. I remember the first time I met Jamie from Sitting in a Tree and told her I wanted my special day to be a mix of Frida Kahlo meets Dia de los muertos. I was fully expecting her to give me a strong look of concern. Instead, Jamie was thrilled and immediately started sharing her ideas. At that moment, I knew I was in excellent hands.
