Lindsey + Nathan selected the gorgeous Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu, California for their wedding, so they didn’t need to do much to create a romantic, magical feel. Candle lit mason jars used as center pieces, twinkle lights hung from trees, and Chinese round lanterns used as lighting over the dance floor illuminated the night and created a warm feeling of romance. Custom to Japanese tradition, Lindsey and her family folded 1,001 paper cranes and they were the main focal point for the reception backdrop – in a pretty nude to pink to red ombré pattern. Such a gorgeous wedding and beautiful venue – oh, and did I mention they have zebras at Saddlerock Ranch! A videographer is worth every penny! There’s nothing more my husband and I wanted after the wedding than to see our family and friends enjoying themselves. Being in it, you miss so many details you worked so hard to create. I can’t tell you how excited we were to watch our video by 618 Studios. We play it every chance we get!

Claribelle + Van are MFEO (that’s Made For Each Other). They share a love for great design, vintage items, and a growing desire to lead more sustainable lifestyles. In fact, they even have a rad company together – yep, MFEO - where they take broken and rejected objects and turn them into uniquely beautiful pieces for your home + wardrobe. Love it! Much of their wedding design inspiration was drawn from late 60’s and mid 70’s rock album covers. Claribelle describes their wedding as “Fleetwood Mac meets Tuscany” – emanating a country Bohemian vibe in shades of jade and tangerine. Um, love that! And her jade wedding dress?! Starting with our Save the Dates, we sent vintage postcards from Oregon stenciled with our information. We designed our invitations and screen-printed each piece onto blank stationary. Other DIY décor pieces included a paper lantern chandelier, mismatched vintage fabric scraps for table linens, a photo booth featuring a vintage photo frame backdrop, handmade decorative dream catchers made by family members, mismatched vintage plates, milk glass & vases thrifted from various estate sales & flea markets, vintage frame chalkboard signage for our wedding schedule and menus that I designed and scripted by hand, reclaimed wood bottle stops used for table assignments handmade by Van at his wood shop, and all wildflower centerpieces and arrangements were grown on the Van Holland family farm the summer of the wedding. 

Van made our wedding bands in his wood shop using scrap pieces of Mahogany & Birch woods. As our relationship and artistry continue to evolve, we plan to upgrade our rings utilizing the resources from which we are working with at that given time.

For our attire, we knew we didn’t want to go traditional. Surprisingly, finding my dress was one of the easiest of our wedding tasks! When I saw the silk Temperley London dress originally in white I loved the style, but couldn’t picture myself in stark white. When I came across the same dress in Jade on The Outnet (the only one in my size!), I knew there was no turning back from the moment I tried it on. The dress embodied everything I was looking for and most importantly, it made me feel like a goddess. To give it my own touch, I made a belt from vintage chains. After searching high and low for a good suit jacket for Van, we knew vintage was the way to go. His vintage Western style jacket paired with a bolo tie made from an antler, forest colored jeans and chukka boots. 

We chose to keep our wedding intimate with only 60 guests. It took place in McMinnville, Oregon at Youngberg Hill Vineyards, just 15 minutes from Van’s family farm. The weather on the day of was perfect, without a cloud in the sky. The ceremony was casual and light hearted and officiated by Van’s father Gary. We wrote and read our own vows, which for us was the most memorable part of the day. Leading up to the wedding, we got so busy planning, that we never gave much thought about what to expect during the ceremony. As the moment drew near, the exchange of vows in front of our dearest friends and family was one of the most overwhelmingly wonderful and powerful experiences we’d ever had. Needless to say mass waterworks began just moment’s into Van’s vows.

The reception itself was the time of our life! After several memorable toasts from the wedding party, the dance party kicked off in full swing with Toni Tony Tone’s “It Feels Good.” Music ranged from a variety of classic rock & AM Gold hits from the 70s during cocktail hour to early 80’s – mid 90’s R&B, soul & hip-pop classics that brought the dance floor soul train to life. It was, without question, the dance party of my life.

Months later all of our friends are still talking about the wedding as a celebration of a lifetime. Despite the challenges of a DIY & destination wedding (we had only visited our venue twice in person over the course of planning), everything came together exactly as it was supposed to and we wouldn’t change a thing.

I love all the sweet details from this New Jersey Vineyard Wedding! And their ceremony right at dusk is so, so magical! A bit about the day from Kirby:

We thought about our talents, made some to-do lists, and it all just fell into place. Matt is a graphic designer, and he immediately appointed himself as the art director of the wedding. I am a special education teacher, which is one of the few jobs that can turn you into a person who has enough patience to fold, string, and detangle paper cranes for hours on end. I don’t think we realized just how personalized our wedding was going to be until we were experiencing it. It definitely feels as though it happened on its own.

Tomel + Lenin wanted an intimate wedding in a vineyard and choose Murietta’s Well Winery in Livermore, California as their location. It was important to them to share the day not only with family + friends, but also their new daughter who they included in the ceremony. They also wrote their own vows and had the cutest custom cake toppers that looked like the three of them. :) Such a pretty wedding – and love their gorgeous purple backdrop for the ceremony! When Harper + Aaron initially started to plan their wedding, they very much wanted to capture some of the intimacy that is found when sitting around a backyard table with a few close friends + a bottle of wine – basically, they wanted to recreate a large dinner party outdoors. Inspired by photos of long natural, family-style dinner tables under a canopy of twinkle lights strewn within large oak trees, Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu, California could not have been a better venue for them to fulfill their vision.

Since Harper + Aaron are both architects, they love getting involved with all the little details. Once they started diving into the little things, the big picture really came together. With subtle tones of gray, lush, aromatic greens, and small pops of coral, their understated palette wove it’s way through the evening. I love that they created a unified graphic look anchored by the physical marks of their individuality – their fingerprints – on everything from the the invites, table numbers, escort cards, signage, menus and favors. We designed our own wedding invitation suite. We’re both architects and wanted to put together a clean, modern invitation suite that also had some playful elements.  We’ve always loved brown kraft paper and the way it contrasts with crisp white paper, so we made sure to use it as an accent material in the suite. For the fingerprints, we individually scanned our ring fingers and then traced the prints in AutoCAD (nerds, I know).  We overlaid the two fingerprints to create the heart and used that as a graphic thread to tie together elements of the wedding.

Christina + Jonathan wanted their wedding to represent their love for the south with lots of personal + handmade touches. They found the perfect venue at the Vesuvius Vineyards in Iron Station, North Carolina. To bring in their own personal touches, Jon and his dad built the farm tables for dinner and the DJ table. Ginger from Hey Love Events and Christina made the linen runners for the tables as well as the tassels that were strung behind the DJ table, photo-booth, and balloon seen above – and if you love those, we have a DIY to make the tassels here :).
