Moroccan-Mediterranean Korakia Pensione Wedding: Gabby + Alex – Part 2

korakia pensione wedding

Did you guys catch part one of today’s incredible wedding, captured by Studio Castillero? If not, you’ll definitely want to check that out first to see the fashion, florals, and location from this wedding in full detail! For part two, we’re excited to share Gabby + Alex’s dreamy ceremony + amazing, camp-inspired reception. Gabby was the text book definition of a DIY bride, styling incredible vignettes + crafting her fingers to the bone to ensure everything would be just right. And Korakia Pensione was the perfect canvas for all of the incredible Moroccan-Mediterranean inspired details that ended up being incorporated throughout. Before we dive into all the pretty photos, let’s hear a bit more about the design process from Gabby:

I think what made our wedding interesting and personal was watching the day unfold. We had good friends and family involved in almost all creative aspects of our wedding. From the florals, to the music, to building the chuppah, to our six amazing cakes, we depended on our family and friends to make it happen. To see all the talent come together was incredible and the end product truly reflected us as a couple.

When we began planning our wedding, tradition wasn't our focus. To our surprise, our favorite moments included: the ceremony (with my older brother as our officiant), the dancing (music played by good friends) and the cake cutting (the most amazing array of log cakes that were presented on a huge wooden board accessorized by sparklers - quite a production).

Much of the wedding was planned with their guests’ comfort in mind, so little details like wool throws doubling as escort cards, ensured everyone would stay warn on the cool desert night.

I treated our wedding like a brand (I know, not that romantic right?). I created a logo for our weekend, which will now always be remembered as “Camp Korakia.” I started with the details (the logo, ceramics, cacti, geodes, bandanas, Weck jars, carnations and lilies, log cakes, just to name a few) and let the theme grow from there. In styling, I fell in love with the hotel aesthetic, but wanted to find a subtle contradiction to the Moroccan decor that sets the Korakia mood. That’s where the “campy” theme really flourished. I went for contrast – stark black & white bandanas (as napkins) placed against warn wooden tables and pottered/ceramic centerpieces (a year’s worth, collected by the MOB). I didn’t want to compete with the natural landscape, but still wanted the details to show through.

The reception was filled with even more fun surprises. Casablanca projected on the white wall of a Korakia bungalow during the reception + flaming sparklers surrounded the dance floor + cake table!

- I know there are many factors in choosing a wedding venue, but try to find a place that you both can picture being able to relax and enjoy all the wonderful moments of your day.

- A week before the wedding (or even just a couple days before) take time for you and your soon-to-be husband (key words: day-of coordinator).

- Organize your inspiration - I created a separate inspiration board for each wedding category - dress style, bridesmaids style, florals, cakes. This really helped to explain my vision to our vendors.

Moroccan-Mediterranean Korakia Pensione Wedding: Gabby + Alex – Part 1

korakia pensione wedding

Gabby + Alex knew from the start that they didn’t just want to pass off the design + planning responsibilities for their wedding, show up, and call it a day. While that may sound like a dream to some couples, these two wanted to be 100% immersed in the details, work closely with talented friends + family members who were excited to chip in, and plan a celebration that was design-focused + reflective of their personalities. For their stunning, handmade Palm Springs wedding, they designed everything from the rad paper goods to the garlands hanging from their ceremony chuppah and shopped for fun finds like geodes, cacti, and vintage Moroccan rugs to decorate the space. All of their hard work really couldn’t have paid off in a bigger way because their celebration, captured perfectly by Studio Castillero, was just about as amazing as it gets!

More about the inspiration from Gabby, In drawing up our wedding plans I pulled inspiration from our day-to-day lifestyle, our love for desert getaways and my most cherished childhood memory of family camp. With the Korakia Pensione as our wedding landscape, “desert camp with a Moroccan-Mediterranean vibe” became our theme. From the moment we stepped foot on the Korakia grounds we felt at home in a land far far away – Korakia is sort of magical in that way. We set out to find a venue that could host a weekend getaway and not just a day-long event. We wanted to spend as much time as possible with our most loved. The architectural treasure that is the Korakia made it the first place we could picture really feeling relaxed on our wedding day – we were sold.

For my bridesmaids, I wanted to create the look of individual “outfits” that would complement each other and work with the backdrop of a cool desert night. I emphasized the idea of mixed texture and style (jumpers, skirt/top combos and dresses included). Winter florals vs. solids, sleeves vs. no sleeves, movement vs. structure, long vs. short, where all in the plan. After reviewing at my style inspiration board, my sister-in-law described the look as “French 70′s desert fashion” which summed it up just perfectly. When I stumbled upon Reformation it was exactly what I was looking for and all in one line, which made the bridesmaid “project” easy. I chose to accessorize with carnation flower crowns and cuffs. I liked the simplicity and boldness of the carnation against the different textile patterns and colors. I gave the girls little leather drawstring pouches made by BAGGU (exclusive to the General Store, Venice Beach, CA), which turned out to be a great accessory for the night.

First Look at the BLISS Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Collection

Monique Lhuillier Bliss

Last month, the GWS team was invited by Monique Lhuillier to catch the behind the scenes of the lookbook shoot for her BLISS Spring 2015 Collection. We had so much fun talking to her team about the new line, trying on rings from her gorgeous ring collaboration with Blue Nile, and – of course – gawking at all of the stunning dresses! Since we love the inspiration behind BLISS as much as we love the dresses themselves, let’s hear a little bit about the collection, directly from the Monique Lhuillier team:

Inspired by a femininely elegant youthful bride, the BLISS Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Collection provides a curated collection of romantic dresses that are punctuated with fresh styles, all embodying Monique’s signature design aesthetic. Color is subtly infused into the collection with beautiful soft tones of pale blush and latte mixed with soft layering of silk white tulle and laces. Exquisite design details include beautiful combinations of Chantilly lace with overlays of draped tulle and delicate embroidered lace appliqués in addition to cascading hemlines edged with horsehair trims. Catering to all her BLISS Monique Lhuillier brides, Monique provides distinct silhouettes from stunning trumpet shaped gowns, ethereal sheaths to whimsical ball gowns at an accessible price point.
