Engagement Session in a Pumpkin Patch: Jenafer + Morgan

pumpkin patch engagement

With Halloween coming up next week, we bet a bunch of you have plans to spend this weekend picking out + carving pumpkins! So naturally, Jenafer + Morgan’s crazy cute engagement session in a pumpkin patch is the perfect way to get in the spirit of the season. These cuties roamed around on Sauvie Island (in Portland, Oregon) with their rad photographers, the talented duo Dylan & Sarah, and we just love the beautiful images captured! Their session really couldn’t be more perfect for fall. But before we share more, let’s hear the funny story about how they ended up in a pumpkin patch for their photos, from the lovely Jena:

Morgan and I bonded over a common disdain for pet-names. We started calling each other “pumpkin” in an ironic sense, but the joke was on us. It stuck. For five years. So when we decided to get engagement photos taken the location really picked us.

Let’s hear J + M’s cute proposal story, as told by the bride-to-be:

Morgan and I sparked a flirty friendship based on our mutual love of football at the 2009 Oregon vs. UCLA football game (he disagrees, but I know that I’ve since convinced him he is a Duck fan). After a few months of friendship, hours of Gchat and more emoticons than you’d care to know about, he finally won my heart, Valentine’s Day of 2010, with the sweetest homemade card and a $10 gift certificate to McDonalds (which, I am embarrassed to say, I used to frequent at age 22).

Two beach cottages, a move to Portland, OR, two dogs (Frankie & Eleanor) and 876 movies later, he asked me to marry him on a Sunday in August.

We had plans to float the river with my parents. My Mom had the ring packed in layers of waterproof lunch boxes like a Matryoshka doll. Half way through the float my Dad suggested we pull our tubes over to the side of the river. That’s where Morgan got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Neither of us remember what he said, but I do remember scrambling to get my butt out of the tube to hug him and him promptly yelling at me to look at the ring!

Big congrats, you guys! And best wishes from Team GWS!

Intimate Foggy Mountain Wedding: Shannon + John

North Carolina wedding

Shannon + John met while working in Boone, North Carolina, so naturally they wanted their tiny wedding to be held in the gorgeous NC mountains. Since most everyone had to travel in, and they knew many guests would need to drive home the night of the wedding, they thought a daytime celebration sounded just right. And when you see their gorgeous wedding photos, with the most magical fog creating an amazing ambiance for the afternoon, we’d say they definitely chose the perfect location and time of day to exchange their vows!

Shannon says, Literally every piece of our wedding was personal. Invitations were hand drawn by a best friend and bridesmaid. My flower crown was made by another best friend moments before I walked down the aisle. My neighbors let me trim their tress and flowers as much as I wanted for the reception. Two of my favorite people set up the whole reception with basically no prep time while we were having our ceremony. AND to top it all off, my two best friends sang “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as I was walking towards my groom, and it was that much more perfect. The list goes on and on! I know it wasn’t an ordinary wedding, but if you know our hearts, you know how perfect the day was for us.

Big thanks to Emily Chidester for the amazing photos – seriously, fog has never looked better! – and congratulations to Shannon + John on a day that was just right for them!

THAT CEREMONY!!! I look at the pictures and feel jealous of this amazing ceremony in the foggy mountains but then I get to remember that it's me! Walking through the hills and fog, where I feel the most at home, to the love of my life that also makes me feel the most at home, was the most surreal moment of my life. It was perfect.

What an amazing setting…

Two things: First- PHOTOGRAPHY!!! We had the tightest budget of all time. Even with that, I knew right away who I wanted to capture every tear and moment of nervousness/laughter/joy, and I am so happy with the decision to really care about who's behind that lens. My best friend got married last year and Emily was her photographer - and I knew I wanted to work with her after being a bridesmaid in that wedding. Second- People want to help you. Ten times a day people texted or called me asking what they can do to help. At first I tried to take on everything and say I didn't need any help. Eventually I realized how genuine each person's intentions were and I started handing out tasks! It feels good to be involved and I asked my friends to help with things I know they are good at and everything was amazing.

I know everyone says it, but remembering that at the end of it all, you will be marrying your best friend and even if your cake drops and there is a 100% chance of rain (though it never rained once!), that is ALL that matters! Have fun and relax! Oh, and pack a snack during the "getting ready" time.

Romantic Wedding Inspiration on a Historic Ship

bridal ship shoot

If romance is what you’re going for for your big day, you may want to pay extra close attention to today’s gorgeous wedding editorial, conceptualized and captured by Koby + Terilyn of Archetype Studio. What makes this setting come to life? Well according to Terilyn, it’s the tables draped with silk chiffon blowing in the breeze. The coral plates with mother-of-pearl and fine crystal and sterling for the place settings. Romantic florals hinting at the colors of an ocean sunset. And of course, guests would find their seats by reading the hand written calligraphy on the sails of a model tall ship!

The 1877 Tall Ship Elissa was such a gorgeous backdrop for this shoot + is the last ship left of her kind in the world! We believe there must be an amazing feeling of magic + romance when stepping aboard…

The story dreamt up by Koby + Terilyn follows a ship captain’s daughter, planning her wedding along side her childhood friend. Choosing elements that highlight her favorite memories of the ship at sea…
