Romantic Wedding Inspiration on a Historic Ship

bridal ship shoot

If romance is what you’re going for for your big day, you may want to pay extra close attention to today’s gorgeous wedding editorial, conceptualized and captured by Koby + Terilyn of Archetype Studio. What makes this setting come to life? Well according to Terilyn, it’s the tables draped with silk chiffon blowing in the breeze. The coral plates with mother-of-pearl and fine crystal and sterling for the place settings. Romantic florals hinting at the colors of an ocean sunset. And of course, guests would find their seats by reading the hand written calligraphy on the sails of a model tall ship!

The 1877 Tall Ship Elissa was such a gorgeous backdrop for this shoot + is the last ship left of her kind in the world! We believe there must be an amazing feeling of magic + romance when stepping aboard…

The story dreamt up by Koby + Terilyn follows a ship captain’s daughter, planning her wedding along side her childhood friend. Choosing elements that highlight her favorite memories of the ship at sea…

And the ultra-romantic blooms made the setting even dreamier. Maria Maxit went with high texture + a mix of pastel and berry tones to achieve a compelling, impactful feel.

Handmade New Zealand Wedding: Sophie + Si

New Zealand wedding

Say hello to Sophie + Simon, a talented husband + wife photography team from New Zealand who recently tied the knot themselves! Their beautiful, laid back wedding celebration took place at a private Auckland residence with views of the sea, forest, and expansive fields. Every detail was pulled together by these two + their friends, and tradition was practically non-existent as the ceremony was the last event of the day! They had a homemade slingshot station, the cake cutting was done with an axe, and guests enjoyed their fave made-to-order coffee drinks from the on-site espresso bar. Want to hear even more about how they made their day their own? Sophie shares additional details + their inspiration with us below:

We knew we wanted bonfires, tacos, good music, good coffee and for it to be enjoyable for our guests – basically an extension of the regular crazy communal dinners we have with friends in our backyard – except we’d get married at the end of it and we could invite everyone we know and love. Best Made Co. & Kinfolk were our two main inspirations for the look and feel of the day. Getting ready together at a little Auckland bach (holiday house) in the middle of nowhere helped get rid of any nerves as it felt like the day was about us from the get go.

Thanks so much to Forged in the North for the beautiful images and big congrats to Si + Sophie!

Sophie says, Walking up the aisle together for the ceremony made sense for us since we spend all our time together running a photography business and traveling around the world shooting, so we’ve done everything 100% together since we met and walking up the aisle together surrounded by our friends just made sense.

exchanging rings

Having the ceremony towards the end of the wedding day (right on sunset around a huge bonfire) was the most memorable moment. Since we'd already welcomed and talked to all of our guests earlier in the day, eaten a long lunch and listened to our friends’ bands play around the bonfire it felt as if everyone was really ‘present’ (including us) so we could really soak up every bit of it. We got married in May, which is the middle of the Southern Hemisphere autumn, so the day flowed with the light and as the evening cooled off we lit the bonfires and just relaxed into the presence of our friends and said ‘I Do’. It felt ridiculously natural.

Incorporate things into your day that make sense for you rather than just replicating the last wedding you attended. The 'getting married' bit only takes about 10 minutes so everything else surrounding your day is up for grabs. Find ways to stay present throughout the day as it flies by SO fast, take moments away from every little part of the day that you can cherish

Boho Camping Engagement Session: Nicole + Dan

boho camping engagement

We have such an adorable e-session to share with you guys today – that’s sure to provide perfect engagement photo inspiration to couples who share a love for adventure + the great outdoors, just like Nicole + Dan do! Piney River Ranch in Vail, Colorado was the perfect place for Whitney of Tulle & Grace to really capture these guys in their environment. Between the sweetest little tent decorated with florals (thanks to Lale Floral Design), Nicole + Dan’s fun boho style, and the epic Colorado mountain views, there’s too much to love – we couldn’t even begin to pick a favorite element!

Let’s hear a little bit more about these two from Whitney of Tulle & Grace:

Nicole and Dan met at Nebraska Wesleyan University. They started out as good friends with a love for music and soon realized they had a lot more in common than they could have ever imagined. After graduation, being the free spirits that they are, they packed up their belongings and moved to Denver with no jobs and no idea what they were going to do in hopes of living an authentic life that fit them. They later found great jobs and built a life in the Rocky Mountains. Dating for 7 years and building a life in a different state got them thinking about the next step in their journey. They talked about marriage and picked out the perfect ring, but Dan wanted it to be a surprise. One random Wednesday, while out with some friends at a local Denver hangout, Dan asked Nicole to join him in the photobooth. They sat down, discussed their game plan for the 4 images they were about to take, and between the 2nd and 3rd click, Nicole heard something fall to the ground. With one swoop of the hand, Dan recovered the ring that had fallen from his pocket, proposed on the 3rd click, and ended the roll with a YES and a big kiss.

What a cute story! Big congrats to the happy couple + thanks for sharing your photos with us!
