Downtown Salt Lake City Engagement Session: Taylor + Chad

Salt Lake City engagement

Hey guys, meet Taylor + Chad! These two cuties met on a blind date (love hearing a BD success story!) and decided on an intimate + simple setting for their engagement photos with Tyson French. Their sweet session started with some shots in their stylish apartment in downtown Salt Lake City. Then, the trio moved on to Jessica Peterson’s super rad photo studio where the blank canvas of a backdrop really allowed the focus to be on these two and their love for each other! Let’s hear a little more detail about how T + C met, shall we?

My dearest fiancé and I met on a blind date! I had no hope in blind dates because I had been on a few before and they didn’t turn out spectacularly. Chad was different. We went on a hike to a waterfall (which we never found) and we talked for hours. He left the next day to work in St. Thomas for the entire summer (which ripped my heart out) but we talked the whole summer and when he got back, the rest was history! We were inseparable…

Two years later he proposed to me at our favorite pizza restaurant. He seemed nervous and strange all throughout the dinner but I didn’t think much of it. As we left the restaurant we started walking down the bright streets of Salt Lake City and he turned me around, got down on his shaking knee, mumbled something romantic and sweet and asked me to be his wife. I will always remember that moment and I can’t wait to continue our adventure in life together.

Super big congrats you two! :)

DIY: Summer Floral Boutonniere

DIY summer floral boutonniere

We’ve been on a flower kick lately for the summer, and you may even recognize some of these blooms from our Seasonal Flower Guide: Summer, so it’s only fitting we share a DIY summer boutonniere that you can easily make for your guy and his dudes for your wedding day! Erin from Dandelion & Grey is sharing how to make these beauties, so lets see how she did it!

DIY summer boutonniere

What You’ll Need:
• Fresh Flowers (from left to right) Pittosporum, Leucadendron Jubilee Crown, Freesia, Snow on the Mountain, Blushing Bride Protea, Lisianthus
Clippers
Floral Tape
Ribbon
Boutonniere Pins

Gather your materials. When crafting a boutonnière, it’s a good ideas to mix several different textural elements in varying shades + sizes to create visual interest. Here, Lisianthus + Blushing Bride Protea were used as the focal flowers, with Pittosporum, Freesia, Leucadendron Jubilee Crown, and Snow on the Mountain acting as backing + accents.

DIY summer boutonniere

Step 1: Choose your focal flower + bunch together your ingredients until you are happy with the result, layering to create depth + height. Trim the end of the stems so they are all the same length.

Step 2: Wrap the different elements together using floral tape. We wrapped the tape almost all the way to the end of the stem, but if you prefer a different look, with more of the stem showing, wrap only a few times around the stem + leave the rest exposed.

Step 3: Finish your boutonnière with ribbon. Wrap the stems to cover all of the floral tape + tie in a simple knot or wrap and dot with a glue gun for a cleaner look.

Seems like an easy + fun DIY, right?! We love the three different variations Erin created using different focal flowers + fillers!

If you make your own boutonniere, we’d love to see how it turns out, so please share on Instagram along with the hashtag #GreenWeddingShoesDIY

Thanks so much to Gregory Ross for the photos.

Intimate Wedding in the Colorado Rockies: Krista + Addison

Rocky Mountain wedding

An intimate wedding, with only a handful of your faves, is the perfect answer for couples who want to elope, but just can’t imagine doing so without their best friends and family by their side. You kind of get the best of both worlds, right? And we love that Krista + Addison were of that same thought processes when they planned their small wedding against the beautiful backdrop of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. As self-professed wanderers who enjoy every minute of planning their next adventure, these guys knew they wanted to tie the knot in an incredible location. Krista grew up taking family vacations to the Rockies, but Addison had never been, so she took the opportunity to share her most favorite state with her husband-to-be and together they planned an unforgettable, intimate destination wedding!

Addison and I are a very free spirited couple. We love nature and knew we wanted a peaceful scenic area where we could run away and do something different and out of the ordinary! So we made invitations to send to the friends and family that had very specific rules: No checking in on Social media. No telling anyone who you’re going out of town with and where and why. We wanted the day to be very intimate and about one another, and we feel social media can really take the excitement out of it sometimes. It was the most thrilling adventure. I think our family and friends having to keep it a secret was the hardest part, but they did it!

Love it so much! Big thanks to Levi Tijerina for the super pretty photos and congrats to Krista + Addison on a beautiful day that was exactly what they wanted!

The first look. Definitely the first look, we were in such close quarters getting ready that morning in a cabin across from Addison's and still hadn't seen one another. That moment leading up to me calling his name and him turning around to see me for the first time in a dress all done up was the most amazing moment ever! Having a minute to hug and breathe before the small ceremony was so great!

And be sure to check out the lovely film from Forget Me Not Media!

Well, I would tell everybody to have a secret destination wedding but then that becomes a trend and it's not so secret anymore Haha, there was no stress at all! We were engaged for a month and that was just enough time! I guess I would say to those considering eloping, DO IT! You won't regret it. And those who are planning a big wedding, don't stress and if you do, just look at your significant other and breathe for a minute, enjoy the time planning together.
