When you see the new issue of Brides (on newsstands April 24th) you might notice some changes. From the logo to the last page, Brides has a brand new look and I’m head over heels in love with it! It’s the first issue under new editor in chief Anne Fulenwider and I just love their new look. With a fashion shoot inspired by Degas’ ballerinas, bouquets that channel the spirit of style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Debbie Harry, and fun new cocktail ideas, it’s going to be a great issue! We are sharing one of the three covers that they are debuting with the new look and a few pages from a GORG fashion spread of pastel gowns in green, pink, and blue hues that has everyone rethinking a white dress.
The spreads above are from the May 2012 fashion feature, Pale Fire. The piece was photographed by Sandra Freij and produced by Rachel Leonard and shot at Academy Mansion. The top page features a nude-over-purple silk-tulle draped gown with a corset bodice and full skirt by Samuelle Couture ($8,500) and Gold d’Orsay sandals by Ann Taylor ($128). The bottom page features an ice blue mousseline V-neck gown with raw-edge layered detail and cross-hatch embroidery by J. Mendel ($6,450). The issue will be available for download on April 17th and hits newsstands on the 24th.
And to celebrate their gorgeous new look, GWS has TEN year-long subscriptions to give away to you lovelies! Perfect for lots of pretty inspiration while you are planning your wedding. :)

Thanks again to Brides for letting us share this first look today and we can’t wait to see the entire issue! Stunning job!!
I wouldn’t mind wearing a colored dress, I think they’re beautiful!
I love the idea of colored wedding gowns. It’s a fabulous progression of the modern bride’s ever-evolving style. Although my family is relatively traditional, it’s my wedding and I might just bring a little technicolor to white-washed event!
I have seen some really gorgeous colored wedding dresses and sometimes I get dress envy, but I went with a traditional ivory gown. I love ivory gowns :)
I am intrigued by the idea of a different colored wedding dress. I am not so traditional that I wouldn’t consider getting it if it was the dress of my dreams. And I would LOVE to receive Brides magazine for a year!!
I think colored wedding dresses look gorgeous in shoots/on the runway, I’m just not daring enough to ever wear one :)
I think I’d go for a white wedding dress with a colour accent, maybe from a belt, or shoes. Although, I’m still open to a light coloured dress.
I wouldn’t mind wearing a colored gown, but it would be a more subdued style or look.
my mom was SHOCKED when I chose a light gray wedding gown, but she’s come around to the idea when she realized how in love with it I am! I’m not sure I would be comfortable with a bright fiesta colored dress, but i do like the idea of wedding gowns in pale shades of most colors.
I like to play it safe when it comes to colored wedding gowns.. I really like dusty pink and champagne pink colored wedding gowns. However, I’m going with the traditional ivory! :)
I always think it’s great when brides wear a colored dress! I’ll definitely stick to traditional white for my ceremony but I think making an entrance in a shimmery gold or silver cocktail dress would be a great idea at the reception! My BF and I have been looking at rings so I would love a years subscription to Brides :)
I’ve always imagined myself in a light pink dress… but more recently I’m imagining gold or silver.
If I were to choose any colored wedding dress it would have to be a blush pink :) Very soft flirty and romantic!
I love colored wedding dresses in theory, but I will definitely be more traditional when it comes to my own big day!
I think colored bridal dresses are gorgeous and add a very personal touch to a wedding. Besides, a little color adds uniqueness to the special day!
I love the idea of a colored wedding dress but am sticking with a white dress for my more traditional wedding.
I’m traditional so I like white. But I LOVE when the shoes are a fun pop of colour. And the flowers/bridesmaids dresses.
Colored wedding dresses are a little too hip for me
As a wedding designer, I especially love the colored dress trend for my clients who are having a second wedding or for my older brides…
Color.. who doesn’t love color. I am not sure I would wear a colored dress for my walk down the aisle.. But definitely for the farewell exit or a change over during the reception.
I think I would either choose a red dress – my man’s favorite color or something in a gold color. I would really like to have some new inspiration that a subscription to Brides would help with !! I still have a little more than a year to the wedding. So this would be a great help.
i’m thinking about a coloured dress with cream lace overlay. subtle colour!
such a great giveaway!
I think a colored wedding dress could be fantastic for a wedding…if you can pull it off! I however want to stick to some traditions for my wedding, so though my dress isn’t pure white, I will be wearing an ivory gown down the aisle. :)
I think colored wedding dresses are super chic!
I am dying to do a traditional Irish blue dress like the one you showcased not too long ago. It is proving more difficult than I had anticipated though…
I think the colored dresses are great… just not for me. I’m not one to wear white so I view my wedding as the one night I will only wear white!
I absolutely love the idea of a traditional white dress. It’s what every girl dreams about. But, some type of color pop, in the form of a ribbon on the waist or hair would be even better. I do love the colored dresses, but maybe only on others. :)
My dress is the most beautiful shade of natural/ivory with a satin coffee colored belt and light shades of coffee throughout the tulle. I am so in love with it and I’m so glad that I chose something other that white to add warmth and character to my big day.
I expected to you use some color in my wedding dress, but it turns out that I’m going to be in ivory from head to toe. I love the look of color on some brides, but I don’t think I’m daring enough to pull it off.
NO thank you. Colored dresses aren’t for me.
will probably wear something traditional like white or ivory but with color elsewhere – like my shoes, jewelry or hair!
I do like the colored dress, but I’m not sure if I would wear one. I would probably just throw in a bright accent color or some awesomely crazy bright shoes!
I have been playing with the idea of a gold dress… I just have to find the right one!! If I go with white, I’ll definitely have to add some pop colors :)
I’m a huge fan of color and i think that a woman with the guts to wear one on her wedding day is amazing! I plan to go a bit more classic for my own wedding (a BIT), but i am a huge fan!
I could never stray from the basics, but hats off to those with that confidence. My dress has a hint of peach beading and it’s just enough for me.
I would love a subscription! My wedding is next April and I’ve already found my dress. My sash/belt is a medium gray and I’m planning on wearing purple shoes as the “pop.”
I love the idea of a blush or gold wedding dress, but will probably be sticking to white for my own wedding!
I plan on wearing the traditional white dress. I may have a colored sash and shoes to make my attire more interesting! I’m not getting married until Oct 2013 so I’d love to win a subscription!!!
I also liked brides mag on facebook! I admire brides who wear color!
I would love a pastel colored dress, but I would never be able to come up with a way to pull off any brightly colored dresses. Love em though when they’re done right!
Love the concept of colored wedding dresses but probably would not wear color for my own.
I would absolutely love to wear a colored dress! I could imagine white at the bodice that ombrĂ©s into bright jewel tones on the bottom. Of course red is always beautiful too, and is traditional for Chinese and some Indian weddings. I would also consider a brightly colored Indian lehngha or sari in place of a traditional Western gown. I guess there isn’t much I wouldn’t do. ;)
Love color but I am sticking with white or ivory for my dress!
I would love a pale blue silk taffeta gown!
i’ve always dreamed of a blush or yellow gown! if i found one in the right silhouette, i would absolutely wear it.
I’m head over heels in love with blush wedding dresses, especially when it is paired with white or ivory lace. I’ve also started to appreciate dove-gray dresses and think it would work perfectly for a wedding.
I adore colored dresses! I am wearing an ombre dove grey to ivory dress! =)
I’ll probably wear white or a very pale yellow. I would totally venture out if my groom hadn’t specifically requested I stick with white!
I am absolutely head over heels in love with all of the colored gowns we’ve been seeing on the runways lately. From the pastels that Elie Saab showed off to the red featured by Romana Keveza and Vera Wang, it is all so great! However, I am a bit more traditional when it comes to my gown. I will probably wear an ivory gown but I haven’t given up the idea of a pink crinoline.
I have been searching for the perfect wedding gown and I have seen the long and short of it, different colors to say the least in my list of choices. However, instead of the colored ones the pops, it is always the ivory or stark white hues that catches my eye. I think as a Filipina with a very traditional family and a Danish fiance that still likes to have her bride wear a white wedding gown, I am sticking to white or ivory. Colored wedding dresses may be in and a new thing but I would personally just leave the color to my bridesmaids and flower girls dresses as well as the flowers. I am not opposed to other brides wearing colored dresses and I would not even cringe to see one for myself. I think their confidence and guts is just legendary not to mention fierce.
love the colored dresses, but I’m sold on my cream dress!
I could probably be a colored wedding dress advocate! I love them. I feel as though they add personality to the “big day” and they show the brides true character. White dresses are okay, but colored wedding dresses give a true wow factor.
I have always envisioned brides to be in the color of their choice on their wedding day! I adore a bold color for a wedding gown and soft muted palletes for the bridesmaids. I think we will be seeing more of this as the years progress.
I’m looking for a champagne/ light gold dress myself. Nothing wrong with traditional white, but I see no reason to limit yourself.
I have seen some beautifully done colored wedding dresses, but for me, nothing makes me feel more like it’s a wedding than a bride in a white dress. I’m a bit of a traditionalist, but I love colorful accents (shoes, jewelry, flowers, etc), so kind of the best of both worlds, in my opinion! :)
I love the idea of a pink dress – not sure I can pull it off, but I’m definitely going to try some on!
I’m totally in favor of a bride looking exactly as she wants on her wedding day. I think colored dresses can be fun, although my personal taste runs toward more muted colors than red.
I’m personally not a fan of colored wedding dresses, but I would love to see one of my friends wear one.
I am seriously considering a blush/pink colored gown. However, after reading this post, lilac sounds heavenly. I still haven’t decided though, so we will see what happens!
My wedding dress is pink!! So excited to wear it because the venue we are getting married in is all white marble!
Love colored wedding dresses. Went to a wedding a couple of months ago where the bride wore a gorgeous pink gown, but then again I love everything to do with weddings!
Gosh love that bouquet on the cover. I’m looking at a few dresses… some totally white, some nude-colored, or with gold/silver sequins. I also love the blush color!
I love love LOVE colored wedding dresses. I am definitely not looking for a plain white dress for mine, the more color the better!
Hm, not too crazy about colored wedding dresses. I would maybe consider blush but that’s a big maybe!
I think it is high time for colored gowns to become part of the day! I hope mine will be a slate blue tulle.
Blush, gold, nude with accents! Sparkles! And lots and lots of tulle, the Sugar Plum Queen!
I love colored dresses! But I think I’m going to stick with tradition and go with a white one…
I plan on staying traditional with color but wearing a short dress. I do think pastel wedding gowns are awesome though!
i wish i had the guts to wear a colored dress to my wedding. i love color!
i think they can be beautiful, but i think i’ll go with a traditional ivory. but maybe with a colorful sash!
Don’t know if I’d go for colored myself, but is such a cool look, fun to do something different!
I actually rather love colored dresses. I totally understand why they aren’t for everyone, but I know that I’m totally okay with them.
I personally wouldn’t wear a colored wedding dress but I think that women who do are very brave and adventerous!
I prefer the Traditional White Dress ! Although I do love bright colors, which I will be incorporating in my wedding.
If I were to pick a color for a wedding dress it would still be a neutral color… no bright colors
Of course colored dresses are awesome! White has only been ‘traditional’ for a century or two and all of the beautiful women of the past wore colored dresses that were all made specifically for them- so why not bring back that tradition?!
i’m sticking to the traditional white dress for the ceremony and am planning to go a little wild and wear a red dress towards the end of the reception :)
My dress had cascading dusty rose embroidery in back. I love that from the front it’s a very traditional ballgown, but that the back is so unique! Yeah for color!
I’m wearing a white dress, but the colored wedding dresses are beautiful and I expect them to become only more popular.
I’m DYING to find the prefect light blush tea-length 50’s inspired wedding dress. (Tall order, I know) I feel like a colored wedding dress, especially pink, would really showcase my quirky sense of style on my wedding day!
LOVE the idea of a lilac wedding gown (maybe a reception dress) but I will likely stick to traditional white.
I’m totally on board with incorporating colour into the bridal look. I opted for an ivory dress with bold accessories, but I considered a few coloured gowns while shopping.
My wedding gown is white, I like the traditional look and incorporating color with a bright bouquet, accessories, decor etc.
I think if its ur wedding you can wear what u want. I personally only like white wedding dresses (or similar color). I think adding something small with color or wearing funky shoes is nicer than a colored wedding dress
I love some nude and champagne dresses, but I think dove gray is the best color second to white. I will stick with white because it looks best with my skin tone, but I love the other colors!
I love colored wedding dresses! Mine is rose-gold. I just don’t look great in white!
I absolutely LOVE the idea of colored wedding dress! I wanted mine to be green but my fiance didn’t want me to.
Maybe a light pink dress, but nothing outrageous :)
I’m a “classic white” girl when it comes to wedding dresses, but that shoot does look beautiful!
Mmmm, I’d love to wear light gray. Subtle, chic, flattering – you can’t get any better! That “power tulle” dress is amazing!
I love colored wedding dresses, they add a fun pop of color. But the color I love best on me is a traditional white dress.
I love colored wedding dresses! They are so feminine and beautiful! I picked a ivory dress but would love to wear some color!<3
I was in LOVE with the idea of my wedding being non-traditional – with everything from the location, to the food, to The Dress. Every time I see pictures of brides in bold wedding dress colors, I envy their courage to be different and to stand out. In my quest for the non-traditional, I’ve done quite well so far. However, the hunt for The Dress surprised me. I tried on so many beautiful dresses, in a rainbow of colors.. but I just didn’t feel.. like a bride. I wanted to buy them ALL, don’t get me wrong. But, they just didn’t make me feel like I wanted to get married in them. So the dress I chose, while still very fashion-forward in it’s style, is ivory. And I am just absolutely in love with it!!
Did we find out the winners yet or were they notified personally?
