Bohemian Woodland Wedding: Julie + Bo

bride and groom

Julie + Bo live in Brooklyn, but are both originally from the south so they wanted their wedding to have a country/southern feel to their day. After visiting A Private Estate in update New York, they fell in love with the location and everything they planned started to fall into place – which usually happens once you find your perfect venue! :) A bit more about the day from Julie…

It was important for our guests to have fun and feel relaxed so we incorporated elements that were fun little surprises for them. We had croquet and horseshoes on the lawn, a champagne surprise upon arrival and a photo booth set up in the woods. We’re both photographers and photo editors, so we just set up the studio to be ready to go for our guests. It was a big hit and a great way to get shots of everyone. The photos got more entertaining and guests were very creative with woodland props as the night went on!

Thanks so much to The Weaver House for the photos and congrats to Julie + Bo!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

There are so many! When we walked down the aisle, and I first saw Bo it was such an incredible feeling. I am a crier, and I thought I would sob, but I laughed the entire way down the aisle. It was such a happy moment, and he looked so incredibly handsome. Seeing him standing there in his suit is a feeling I will never forget. All the details that I had thought about for months totally disappeared. His face was the only thing I saw, and it was a perfect moment between us.

Another memory I will never forget is when we first arrived on the property the Thursday before our wedding, we took a few friends up to the barn and turned on all the lights. All of a sudden, there were shooting stars all over the sky, one after another. It was magical and a perfect beginning to our wedding weekend!

We tried to make our dinner feel homey with a Southern menu of fried chicken, black eyed pea cakes, pumpkin soup shots, sugar snap pea salad, grits, corn bread, watermelon and a lot of honey. We also made our signature cocktail one of Bo’s favorite drinks, a blood orange bourbon sour, which we called the ‘Mississippi Medicine.’ We used favorite family recipes for a few of the desserts as well.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

It seems like everyone tells you that it will fly by, and it sort of does. Between the engagement and planning, there are so many moments you will remember forever. It’s important to be present and savor every second. It’s such a special and fun time in your life together. Don’t focus on too many stressful details, just enjoy every second of the process. It is an incredible time, and on the day of your wedding, all those little details just sort of fade away, and all you can focus on is each other.
