Bohemian-Luxe Sayulita Wedding: Whitney + Graeme

Sayulita Mexico Wedding

Whitney + Graeme, who both love to travel, instantly thought ‘destination wedding’ when they started planning their day. They quickly began searching for the perfect spot where they could get away for the weekend with their favorite people. Sayulita had it all. Not only was it beautiful, but Whitney grew up spending winters in Mexico visiting her grandpa + Graeme’s second love in life is surfing, so it held sentimental value + reflected the things the love. The bohemian feel, the sand + surf, and the relaxed Mexican vibe were all just right. Below, Whitney shares more with us about some of her favorite details of the day:

The wedding day itself was everything I had dreamed it would be. The idea was to create the ultimate beach party, with a luxe-boho feel! As a photographer I always love the small details of a wedding so we ended up bringing a lot of decor down with us and getting some amazing custom pieces done, including a beautiful crochet hanging by Free Creatures and custom calligraphy sea glasses done by the amazing Written Word Calligraphy. We had a couple of people tell us, make sure you take a moment to yourselves to step back and take in everything around you. Graeme and I went for a walk on the beach away from the wedding and when we looked back we saw all of our favourite people dancing on the beach with the starry sky above… it was perfect!

Thanks so much to Taryn Baxter for these gorgeous images + big congrats to the happy couple on an amazing day!

All the pretty details are making us weak in the knees, but Whitney admits she couldn’t have pulled it all off without a little help. She says, As a wedding photographer myself, I had a lot of idea’s of what I wanted but needed people to help me bring my ideas together and source things in Mexico so I hired Sayulita Dream Weddings to help coordinate the events, and Spread Love Events for decor. I have a lot of brides ask me if I think they should hire a coordinator or day of help and I really think it such a great investment. Ashley (Spread Love Events) and Andrea (Sayulita Dream Weddings) became my sounding boards and did everything they could to make our day perfect to us. I could not have done it without them!

I had my bridesmaids choose their own unique dresses in a colour palate that matched the theme of the day. They all looked beautiful wearing something that expressed their individuality in a style that suited them.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

I think when you're having a destination wedding the most important thing is always making your guests feel special. We thought we'd maybe have 50-60 people coming down and we ended up with 100 people, which was so amazing! We knew everyone was putting in something extra to be there for us so we really wanted to show everyone how much we appreciated that so we held a big welcome party at La Terazolla, a great Mexican restaurant on the beach. We wanted the welcome party to be fun and laid back and a chance for everyone to start the celebrations and bond together. There was a Taco and Churro cart from town, an amazing local Reggae band, a Tequila donkey with shots for guests and wish lanterns for everyone!
