Bohemian Black Tie California Wedding: Eileen + Brian

Child of Wild Wedding

If you’ve already stopped by GWS today, you’ve already gotten the chance to check out Eileen + Brian’s s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g engagement photos captured by Logan Cole of Branch + Cole. Well, that was just the beginning of the beauty we’re sharing today, and we were just ramping up for the main event: E + B’s absolutely stunning boho black tie wedding celebration!

On the vibe for their big day, Eileen tells us, We really wanted to incorporate a mixture of cultures and religion. We chose a Catholic Spanish-Gothic church full of candles, dark woods and a huge imported gold alter. We had vintage European relics and Ethiopian Coptic crosses all over the venue and our escort cards were replicated “love” Tarot cards. We both have a deep respect and interest in different philosophies of belief and wanted to showcase that in our eclectic décor. I asked for only textures and shades of creams/whites for our outdoor lounge and table scape. Then all the accents were natural reclaimed woods, vintage brass objects and organic florals and succulents. We placed my designed animal skulls EVERYWHERE and it was a huge focal point in our lounge. I am sure some thought it was a weird accent for a wedding but then again… what did they expect!

Eileen is the owner of the gorgeous bohemian jewelry + accessory line, Child of Wild, so it was no surprise that she was perfectly accessorized on her own big day! We LOVE, love, love the dreamy headpiece she wore, and she has curated a beautiful selection of Child of Wild pieces that would work perfectly for brides + weddings on her website here!

The florals were crafted by Brian’s mom, Rosemary Duff Florist, and we love the simplicity of the green + white bridal bouquet she designed.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The day is majority a blur of hugs, dancing, laughing and running around (and stressing). But my favorite moment was when Brian and I were surprised with a vintage 1956 all white Bentley to drive away from the ceremony in. It is the same car that my parents and his parents drove away in on their wedding days. We were greeted with champagne and had a solid 15 mins alone in the car to drive. There we got take a breath and really take in that we were now MARRIED !!!! Just us… in a sick vintage car… husband and wife… driving to meet our friends and family. That was a really REALLY special moment.

Brian and I are both hyper-creatives and luckily share similar taste. A lot of the décor was built by Brian and his family and “looks” like our style. We had TONS of traditional Croatian wedding details like rosemary on the plates to represent marriage and toasted with Slivovitzes shots (which is a plum brandy was made by nuns in Croatia that we had smuggled in by Brian’s cousins). We labored over our music play list and our amazing DJ spun vintage vinyl’s of The Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. all through our cocktail hour. Brian gave vinyl’s to his groomsmen the day off. Our cake table was filled with pictures of our parents, grandparents and great grandparents wedding photos. People could see our hand in every element of the day. Hand rolled Cigar bar was a hit too !

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Remember that there is no right way to get married. There is no décor or tradition that is mandatory. Let the day be all about you, your expression and your wants. There is no wedding big or small that is more important then the other… what is important is that it’s your interpretation. Being in the fashion industry I was starting to feel pressure of what people may think or expect.

Ask for help. I was horrible at this and I highly recommend finding talent that can help create your vision. Lucky I am friends with the PowWow girls (who KILLED it) and Brian’s family is full of designers and florists. But when it came to little tasks and details I killed myself to get them done and should have just delegated.

Chill. I found myself starting to freak out about small details the day of… champagne was poured late... all the lights were supposed to be turned off… missing décor accents… thank you gifts were no where to be found lol.. get over yourself and your insane standards and enjoy the day because it will fly by. Don’t waist it stressing about things out of your control. Look at your husband and be thankful you are so lucky to have found love the love of your life!
