We’re pretty sure we’ll never tire of sharing beautiful elopements in beautiful places! And when you see something like Holly + Aaron’s sweet and intimate celebration in Wahclella Falls (just outside of Portland), it’s probably pretty clear as to why! Eloping amongst the lush, moss-covered mountains + waterfalls was not only the perfect way for these busy med students to take away the pressure of throwing a big, expensive + traditional wedding, but it also fulfilled a childhood dream of Holly’s. Let’s hear a bit about that now before we get to all of the stunning images by Dylan and Sara:
I am from a small town in south Louisiana. I am 27 years old and my first flight was last year so it is easy to see that my travel experience is limited. All I have ever wanted to do is explore the world. As a little girl, I remember seeing my best friend’s vacation photos of gorgeous mountains covered in lush moss and I was obsessed. We thought about what was most important for our wedding; it was simple: love, a little romance, and photographers that could make our pictures look like art. Aaron was supportive right from the start. If I did not know any better, I would think that he always dreamed of eloping near a waterfall in lush mossy mountains, too!
Everything was perfection. We both agree that exchanging our vows in front of a waterfall was the most romantic experience of our lives. Aaron is a man of few words so when he read his vows, I was overwhelmed by the depth of his commitment. I whispered my vows in his ear so they could forever be a secret between the two of us. It was such a pure celebration of our relationship and love to elope surrounded by serenity.
Holly’s vintage 70’s dress felt like it was made for the whimsical, timeless setting. Looking for something similar? We love the Nanette Dress from Ruche!
The mossy backdrop made for such epic portraits of the darling newlyweds!
1. Elope!! If it feels right for you then just take the plunge. Go somewhere you have always dreamed of. Do things you have never done. It is a magical adventure.
2. If you find a photographer that you love, book them and never doubt your decision. Finding artistic photographers that could capture the essence of our wedding was crucial.
3. If you have a friend or family member that is interested in becoming ordained then truly consider it. It was so special for us to not feel like we were sharing one of our most romantic moments with a stranger.
4. Plan ahead to have your flowers preserved. I had the most fabulous bouquet and wish so much that I could have kept them. That was my only regret.

Congratulations! Such a lovely and magical location! What month of the year was the wedding, and what time of the day? I’m sure it was a popular hiking venue. Would love to hear tips you may have on how you dealt with passing crowds. Thank you!
Hello! Did you need any license or permit to get married there?
