Adventure-Inspired Elopement at a Waterfall

Abiqua Falls Elopement

Mare + Tiff wanted something different for their wedding day… Something adventurous. After seeing gorgeous photography from Natalie Puls Photography at Abiqua Falls in Oregon, they decided to plan their elopement all the way from Kentucky! Not for the faint of heart, Abiqua Falls is located in a canyon and requires a careful hike down a slick path, complete with ropes for support – but the final destination was completely worth it. Adding to the adventure + bohemian spirit,  T + M collected wildflowers for their bouquets from fields and local markets in the days leading up to their elopement.

The couple shares For us, the decision to elope was hard at first. We didn’t want to hurt any of our family or friend’s feelings. However, after talking it over with them they were all so incredibly supportive. After that, we ran with it and knew we wanted it to be special for us, without the excess stress! We started looking for exciting places to elope. We both love the outdoors, hiking, and finding adventure in the mountains, so that was the first inspiration for the day. We knew a waterfall would be the perfect backdrop for our wedding day… And the moment we saw Abiqua Falls, it became “our waterfall”. Our photographer, Natalie, helped us with all of the details, as we were planning our day from across the country!

Ready for an adventure? Let’s go!

T + M stayed in a greenhouse that had been converted into a “Bali” style getaway!  Making it the perfect addition to their slightly bohemian style wedding!

For anyone wanting to elope, but worried about leaving everyone out – you can always do a post-elopement reception, just like this couple! At the reception, they’ll be able to share all the gorgeous photographs + video from their special day.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The entire day was so incredible because in that time, we devoted our entire attention to one another. We put down the phones, ditched the selfies, and truly lived in the moment. From the moment we woke up, to the moment we closed our eyes, the entire day felt so effortless. But if one moment had to stand out above the rest, it would have to be right after we were pronounced married, and we started making our way back to the other side of the stream, hand in hand. It was metaphorical of the commitment we both had just made to each other and the promise to walk through all things in life side by side.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Don’t be afraid to focus on YOU! Your wedding day is truly meant to be YOUR day, and to represent the commitment the two of you are making to one another! So it doesn’t have to fit into a cookie cutter format, or follow old traditions. Make it unique, special, and be adventurous! If you are planning from a distance our biggest piece of advice is to connect with at least one person in the area of where your elopement will take place. This person will be your lifeline to locations, vendors, weather, shops, etc. We really don’t know what we would have done without Natalie in the entire planning process! One last piece of advice, invest in a photographer and videographer. This not only allows you to live in the moment and forget about the taking pictures, but it also allows you to share your wedding day with your friends and family!
