A Year of Flowers: Aster

Aster September Flower

As temperatures begin to shift and the sun sets earlier, the call of autumn is fast approaching. September is a month of transitions, and to celebrate this month of change, we’re showcasing September’s birth flower: the aster. Asters bloom their hearts out in vibrant colors of pinks, purples, blues and white. The bees enjoy the aster for the last of the summer pollen and butterflies enjoy them as a nice place to stop and rest during their long migration.

Logan of Poppy + Mint Floral Co. shares Asters are quite amazing. The center of each center of a bloom is formed by individual yellow florets bunched into a disc shape. To the outside of this, daisy-like ray florets circle all the way around it. The Greeks noticed the flower’s celestial qualities and gave it the name “aster,” the Greek word for “star.” A garden of aster may resemble a starry night sky!

Prepare to be transfixed by these eye-catching florals, captured by Kristen Soileau Portraits at Arts Estuary 1024 in New Orleans!

It is said that the Greek goddess, Virgo, scattered star dust over the Earth and created asters. She is also the figure of the constellation, Virgo, which is a cluster of galaxies! The ancient Greeks and Romans associated Virgo with the harvest, as the sun passes through Virgo in the fall.

The aster represents the most powerful love and valor, charm, and devotion. These flowers so sweet and powerful, making them perfect for an early autumn bouquet!

Complementing the aster’s variety of color, along with their lovely texture, the model wore this floral + crochet dress from Free People.
