A Weekend in Huntington Beach at the Pasea Hotel & Spa

Pasea Hotel in Huntington Beach

A few weeks ago, Jason and I decided to head down south a bit from LA to the beachy town of Huntington Beach, California for a weekend staycation at the brand new Paséa Hotel & Spa. The hotel is right on the beach adjacent to the iconic Huntington Beach Pier and the newly built Pacific City (more on this later!). Many of the rooms have gorgeous ocean views, there is a Bali-inspired spa, 34,000 square feet of ocean front event space (perfect for weddings!), Tanner’s restaurant and a rooftop bar.

As soon as we walked into the lobby I was totally digging the clean, contemporary vibe of the beachy decor. We arrived on Friday afternoon, so the pool was predictably packed and we were happy to learn that we were just in time for their complimentary happy hour with free wine + beer and a pretty amazing cheeseboard! With Gray Malin prints on the walls and the cutest coffee shop with wine on tap (!!), we were excited for our weekend stay.

After checking out our room (and taking in the amazing ocean view!), we took a tour of the hotel and got to see the event space which would be perfect if you are looking for a beach hotel wedding. They have a grassy area for an outdoor ceremony and/or cocktail hour. And then there is a large modern ballroom for the reception. I think our brides would likely choose the outdoor option.pasea hotel pool

The first night’s dinner was at Tanner’s, the hotel restaurant. Lots of outdoor tables by the ocean (with plenty of heaters in case it gets below 70) as well as an exhibition kitchen encased in glass inside (love those!). The restaurant has a wood-fired grill and the food here was SO good! We actually ate here twice during our weekend and highly recommend the following. :) Drinks: #hellaCali Mule (Vodka, Lime, Ginger and Avocado!) and the Kentucky Tai (Bourbon, Falernum, Orgeat, Carmelized Pineapple and Lime)  // Food: Grape + Burrata Appetizer, Adobe Chicken Flatbread, Tacos Trio. So so yum!

We started our Saturday morning back at Tanner’s with acai bowls and an ocean view – can’t beat that! Then it was off for a massage at the hotel’s Aarna Spa. As soon as you walk through the Spa doors, it feels like you are transported to a very tranquil, Balinese spa. The massage was fantastic and I even spent a few minutes soaking my feet in the saltwater jacuzzi before it was time for lunch.

Since their was still some gloom hanging over the beach , we walked over to Pacific City next door for some lunch + shopping. I LOVED this area. Such a fun new addition to HB! Great shops + dinning and with the newly built Lot 579 (similar to the Anaheim Packing House if you are familiar with that spot), it makes for a fun afternoon. Lot 579 has lots of speciality shops for food where you can find gourmet coffee, a popsicle bar, spaghetti stuffed in grilled cheese and any type of pie you can dream of – plus lots more! Petals + Pop is the cutest flower shop where you can make your own flower bouquets while sipping champagne at their champagne bar.

Pacific City Huntington BeachWe enjoyed some beer + burgers at Simzy’s and then made our own popsicles at Popbar. I had the green tea pop dipped in dark chocolate with almonds. It was the BEST popsicle I’ve had. We even stopped back again on Sunday and I had the hazelnut pop which was also delicious! :) Jason + I are huge coffee fans, so we also grabbed a cold brew from Portola Coffee Lab before heading out to the beach. Another home run.

The sun finally appeared and we were off to the beach for a few hours. The hotel has chairs and umbrellas you can borrow which is great as well.

If you’re looking for a bit of nightlife or just a place to catch up with friends, bridesmaids or your wedding guests, the upstairs Treehouse Lounge is a chic rooftop patio bar serving specialty cocktails….plenty of views and seating options!

On Sunday we decided to hit the pool in the morning and the walk over to Pacific City for lunch at Ola Mexican Kitchen – which was another great meal! We ordered a bunch of their tacos and loved the combination of flavors there. Then we did a bit of shopping and stopped by Philz Coffee to try their famous Mint Mojito coffee. Let me just say – life changing. Seriously so good and dreaming of it again now. If you love coffee and love mojitos, this is a must try!

So, if you are looking for a fun weekend staycation – or maybe planning a west coast honeymoon road trip? If so, I would highly recommend a stay at Paséa Hotel & Spa. The hotel is a beautiful mix of California cool + modern chic and with the beach across the street and all the great shops + restaurants walking distance from the hotel, it makes for a fun weekend. Thinking it would be so fun for a bachelorette party weekend too if you are looking for ideas there! :) Happy travels!
