I hope you enjoyed the first part of the shoot! The rooftop of the Oviatt Penthouse served as the perfect setting for the reception with its gorgeous view of the downtown LA skyline. Sophia and Alex’s first date was over a meal of pancakes, so the ‘Breakfast at Sunset’ theme included a pancake bar. Different types of syrup were lined up for the guests to drizzle over their pancakes and some toppings of fresh fruit added to their flavor.
The couple would have entered through the door and past strings of folded cranes. The beautiful bride changed into a second vintage gown with lace on the bodice and beautiful ribbons flowing down also by Mill Crest Vintage. To bring a bit of blue into the dress, I added a blue sash attached with a vintage pin in back.
Shoes above from shoebuy.com (Nina Shoes) with custom details by myself. If you love these shoes – which I hope you do! – I will be writing a DIY post on how to make them yourself in the next week. The bride’s gorgeous hair and make up was by Theresa Huang and Manning Lee of TH Makeup & Hair Design. Seriously, so sweet and great to work with – and obviously they know their stuff! Thanks ladies!! For the groom, he is wearing a vintage tie from Wasteland and cardigan from Banana Republic. His shoes are also from shoebuy.com (Puma).
The sign in table incorporated Sophia’s fashion design background with the vintage dress form, serving as a platform for guests’ well wishes to the couple and Alex’s job as an architect is reflected through the ruler inspired chest overflowing with white roses. Stationary with ‘I Love Us’ (inspired by Tom’s former job as a greeting card writer in which he wrote those very words) is scattered over the table for the guests to write a note to the couple.
All the beautiful paper elements, including the invitation, i love us notes, menu, and the pancake bar sign were created by the wonderful girls at Wiley Valentine. If you are looking for a custom wedding invitation suite or looking to customize one of their designs, I can’t recommend these ladies more highly. So great to work with!
Instead of sticking to safe browns, beiges, and blue hues like the movie, some color was added, like pale purple to give a more feminine and joyous but still muted feel. This came out subtly in the flowers florist Lauryl Lane picked for the shoot, which consisted of lavender tulips and roses, blue thistles, balsa wood, dusty miller and other fillers to give off a romantic, lush and feminine look. She also added some green moss underneath the flowers into a metal container for the centerpieces. The tabletop was then furnished with vintage chairs and chalk artist, Jennifer Choi made a recreation of Tom’s sketch of the LA skyline onto the chalkboard placemat. The etoille fabric seen as wallpaper in Summer’s room in the movie was used as napkins and coffee mugs were placed to go along with the theme of ‘Breakfast at Sunset’ as the main course.
How great is that table? All the amazing vintage rentals are from Jeni at Found Vintage Rentals. Not only is Jeni super sweet, she has an amazing collection of vintage tables, chairs, frames, containers and lots of other little details to help create your perfect look. She also had the chalkboard placements we used for the table.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this shoot a reality! I can’t wait to pick up a copy of Serendipity magazine this week and see it in print and which photos they selected.
