A Northwest Vintage Wedding: Elizabeth + Dan

vintage wedding dress

Elizabeth is the fashionable blogger behind Delightfully Tacky and if you read her blog you know she loves vintage, DIY and her Winnebago – well their wedding included all three! I just love how many personal details Elizabeth + Dan crafted for their day – the invitations, the ceremony decor, pillows, dessert table and so many more! Arrow & Apple truly captured the love between the two of them and we wish them many happy years together! Thanks so much to Elizabeth for sharing lots of details into the day also!

I wore my mom’s vintage Gunne Sax dress. I’ve wanted to wear this dress since I first saw it. I’ve never even gone into a wedding dress shop or browsed the bridal magazines for another dress. My mom got it for 99 bucks at an outlet store in 1980, can you believe it?

I knew that I wanted all my bridesmaids to have dresses that suited each girl’s taste and body type, so I gave them a bunch of options in similar yellow colors to choose from. I absolutely love the dresses they chose! I’ve never been a fan of the thing where all the bridesmaids wear the same dress and you tell them, “you can totally wear it to other events too!”

I think my favorite little details that were completely “Me” were the arrival and getaway cars. I chose my 1973 Winnebago Brave to drive to the wedding venue with all the bridesmaids in it, and my 1970 El Camino as our getaway car. The El Camino was my first car, which I got when I was 15 and has seen pretty much every major event in my life. The Brave and I took a cross country trip in 2010 from Alaska to the coast of Georgia and back to Washington. Both cars have been major parts of my life so it was fun to include both of them!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Someone had turned off and unplugged our speakers right before our first dance and so when we started dancing, the only thing you could hear was the small speakers on my MacBook and we were basically dancing in silence. My bridesmaids started singing along (the song was Son of a Preacher Man – Dan's dad is a pastor, so it only made sense!) so we wouldn't be awkwardly dancing to no music! It was pretty hilarious.

Unbeknownst to my to-be husband, I’d hatched a plan to sing a song to him! I was super nervous and wasn’t even sure if I was going to do it, but after some pumping up by my bridesmaids, I grabbed the mic and went for it! In retrospect I’m glad I did it, but man was it nerve-wracking to sing in front of that many people. I’ve sung at open mic’s before but in small venues with maybe 40 people at the most. It was fun, though, and I’ve heard it was the highlight of the reception, haha!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Surround yourself with people who understand your vision and are committed to helping you make it happen. And relax. If everything doesn't come out perfectly, you'll still be married at the end of the day, which is the goal, am I right?

Thanks so much Elizabeth and congrats to you + Dan!
