Are you thinking it might be fun to get married on New Year’s Eve? Well, this sweet couple did and I love that they took the holiday into consideration with their masquerade theme! Such a fun extra element to their beautiful Washington wedding. Thanks so much to Tonhya Kae Photography for the photos.

Most memorable moment of your wedding day?
I would have to say the most memorable part of my day was the first look. I was so bummed that it wasn’t going to be the traditional first look down the aisle but I can’t imagine it going any better than it did. Steven was standing facing the water and the cascade mountains as my wonderful photographer helped me arrange my dress. At that moment I realized my dress had a HUGE burn on it (later I found out my dress was burnt by the space heater on the ground). The simple thought of this would ruin any bride’s day but at this moment in time I was so excited to see my future husband I let it slide and boy was it worth it. As I stood there waiting for him to turn around the butterflies danced in my stomach like never before, it was just him and I on the beach. I will never forget the feeling I had when I looked into his eyes for the first time that day.

Our main goal was to make our day about the union between us and God and then focusing on the celebration afterward. We took the time to include family heirlooms such as the headpiece all the women have worn in my family, and our kneeling prayer pillows my aunt used when she was married. Not only were the pillows used in my family but it brought in an ode to Catholicism, the religion in which Steven was raised. We also wanted something more unique than a candle ceremony that showed our new marriage with God, so we found the God’s knot. It was a visual of how God, Steven, and I are intertwined in a beautiful new marriage all depending on the other to stay strong.

Any advice for those planning now?

Plan early! Do as much as you can before the week prior to the wedding because something is bound to come up. The little details make the day feel so much more put together too, so work all the details you can possibly think of and if you can’t think of everything hire a wedding coordinator (at least for the day of). My coordinator was a family friend that has been doing this for years and she made everything run so much smoother. She took the stress away and allowed not only Steven and I but our families to be completely stress free!
