A Hip Engagement Session Strolling Through Portland’s Best

We have a feeling that Jorge + Rosalia are the cool kids at the dinner party. Just listen to this: months before their engagement, they selected a gorgeous, conflict-free ring from Costello Jewelry at a Las Vegas gem show. Fast forward a bit, Jorge proposes to Rosalia on the roof of The Violet Hour, a thriving speakeasy in their home base of Wicker Park, Chicago. And to celebrate their engagement, the couple called on True Grace Photography to capture moments on both digital + film while they transversed across Portland’s best + boldest destinations. We love the idea of choosing an engagement shoot location that’s both unique to you as a couple with–bonus–an excuse to travel! These two also did a killer job of styling three different looks to match their location: engaged couples, take notes!

Grace describes J+R as bold, eclectic, and mindful. She gave us a little peek into the day’s vibe: Whether they were walking through the wonderfully-weird and colorful Alberta Arts District drinking smoothies from a Juice Van (yes, really!) or taking in the misty vista at Multnomah Falls, these two were visibly, tangibly thrilled to with one another, enjoying all the nature and culture Portland could offer. This epic session is unlike any other. As a hybrid photographer, I shoot both film and digital. Rosalia and Jorge are a beyond-the-box couple with dynamic personalities and a bold (not kitschy) sense of style. In the planning process, I decided quickly that Kodak Portra (processed by Indie Film Lab) would be a vibrant fit for their look.

Rosalia has a killer, laid-back style. We love her copper top from Anthropologie! Engagement sessions are the perfect time to pull out a few different looks. A good starting point is one casual look, one chic/dressy look, and one look that’s fun+flirty.
