Whimsical Australian Playhouse Wedding: Kat + Graham

Whimsical Australia Wedding

Happy, happy Monday, friends! ♥ Today’s a-m-a-z-i-n-g wedding is so filled with personality + fun, we almost don’t even know where to start. One of the most unique attributes to Kat + Graham’s wedding, held at Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, Australia, was that no one – not even family members or the bridal party – knew where the wedding would take place. In addition to just being a super fun reveal, keeping the venue a total secret allowed K + G to really do the things they wanted without being influenced by everyone else. We kind of really love that idea, and we love every last detail you’ll see, captured beautifully by Lara Hotz below, too!

Kat says, We had family and friends travelling from all over the world, with Graham being from California and Kat from Victoria so it was important to create a day that reflected our past as well as our lives in Sydney. The mood we were going for was ‘relaxed sophistication’ and we set a dress code of ‘Formal, with a pop of personality’.  Starting the ceremony at a theatre and getting married on the set of a play that was showing that same night and then whisking everyone off to a secret reception location.  As the big red curtain revealed the space with us sitting on a working carousel was pretty magic and made all the secrets totally worthwhile.

We love that Kat + Graham incorporated red details into their day; a totally underused wedding hue if you ask us! PoHo Flowers crafted a perfect orchid + rose bouquet for the equally perfect bride, and the table arrangements + hanging garlands they created for the reception are pretty incredible. Just wait ’til you see!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Other than the moment you see each other for the first time. The moment the Curtain was drawn at the reception to reveal the surprise venue and see everyones faces was pretty spectacular.

Seriously, how gorgeous is this reception space?!! The look was dreamt up by Kat + Graham and designed and executed by She Designs. We LOVE the super long dining tables, modern white chairs, whimsical garlands + florals, and overall magical feel.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Remember it's your day. Do what makes the 2 of you happy first and foremost. Take the time to give your photographer and videographer a list of people that are important (of course everyone is) but the ones you want photos with, family, friends whoever so they arent missed in the excitment of the day. Take a moment to soak it all in, just the 2 of you. And selfishly don't plan anything for the next morning the day is say full on it's just nice to wake up the 2 of you and relive the day before you kick straight back into family and friends.

Details are important and don’t let anyone tell you they aren't! Lots of people will say you wont notice on the day and they especially say this about flowers. But if you are a detailed person you will notice and is totally worth it.
