Colorful, Cultural North Carolina Farm Wedding: Abbie + Mark

North Carolina Wedding

There is all kinds of cuteness exuding from today’s gorgeous farm wedding, making it extra perfect for a sunny summer Friday! The florals were lush and featured the prettiest hues. The setting was rustic, but filled with tons of personality. And the bride, Abbie, wore a custom-made wedding dress featuring lovely lavender elements that helped perfectly pull together the entire palette and all the details of the day. But the best part of Abbie + Mark’s fun celebration has to be all the creative ways they infused their cultures into the decor and experience. Abbie tells us more below…

We shipped over hand carved wooden Haitian statues from a local craftsman and leveraged the vibrant color palate typically found in Haitian Art to pay homage to my mom’s culture. My dad is from Trinidad and the dance floor came alive with soca and calypso tunes. We also made sure to perform some of Mark’s favorite Jewish traditions into the ceremony and sent guests home with family recipe cookies to honor his family.

Big thanks to M+J Events for the event design + planning, and to MorningWild Photography for sending this one our way!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Every bride says this but there were truly a ton of memorable moments! All 150 of our guests sang their heart out as Mark and his mom danced to “Stand by me”, and the room felt like love. But one moment in particular seemed like a dream. A family of birds made their home in the dairy barn where we had our ceremony. One began to circle us at the start of the ceremony and then again during the Mazel Tov (I kid you not!). In retrospect the bird might have been upset with us but at the moment, things felt very fairy tale-like in those moments

Mark is a real foodie and took the lead on the dinner. The menu was smorgasbord of grilled meats and fish with farm-to-table sides, which we decided to serve family style to keep the energy social and warm. Mark loves carrot cake and I love strawberry, so we paired each with artisanal ice cream on a tasting plate so guests could sample. It was delish! The night ended with popcorn.. a snack I can’t get enough of at home.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

1. Trust yourself. Everyone will share their opinion with you if you ask for it, and even sometimes when you don’t! Though they mean well, you know what they say about having too many cooks in the kitchen. Establish your own point of view as a couple and stick to it, then limit the number of opinions you solicit. Try not to get distracted by what everyone else wants or thinks is cool. The day is about celebrating you and your new husband. Your wedding should be a reflection of you both.

2. Focus on a few key things: Someone gave me this advice and I used it to help keep myself in check. When you find yourself getting bogged down by something ask yourself “do I remember the at any of the weddings I attended?” If the answer is no, let it go. For example, I’ve never heard anyone say “oooh, those napkins were amazing” , ha!
