Magical Downtown Los Angeles Wedding: Tabitha + Gavin

Downtown LA Parade Wedding

There’s really, truly only one perfect word to describe Tabitha + Gavin’s wedding at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles: FUN. And a fun + magical day was just right for these two whimsical souls, who planned their entire celebration – by themselves – in under three months. Sure, it helps that Tabitha is a creative kind of gal, owning and operating the party design + styling firm, Winston & Main, but she and Gavin really went the extra mile to incorporate lots of meaningful, personal little details that makes their day stand out from the pack.

Tabitha shares,We met, fell in love, and live in DTLA, so our day really showcased our love of our neighborhood, Gavin’s Scottish heritage and cheesy nachos. We were excited to spend our resources and time in our own neighborhood and show our closest family and friends everything that we love doing here – mainly eating, drinking, making art, and exploring with our pup. We made our day about the two of us with pretty much every decision we made- from our intimate guest count, to our flower dog, popsicle hour, and bagpiper led parade through downtown LA; it felt very much like us.

Big thanks to Marble Rye Photography for the gorgeous captures below!

Tabitha also designed all the florals for the day, and we’re LOVING the bright + bold hues in her pretty rose + protea bouquet!

Guests loved all the thoughtful touches, like the fun wedding flags by Ink & Thread, which they waved constantly from ceremony right through dinner!

We walked into our ceremony together and a close friend (who is also an amazing stand-up comedian) officiated, which included two sets of vows- our real/personal vows, and also funny vows from Flash Gordon. It was hilarious. That sense of playfulness + joy+ theatricality felt just like us and carried over into our parade through downtown following the ceremony, where it felt like we got to celebrate with the entire city, thanks to all the honks, cheers, and well-wishes of strangers.

Post-ceremony, T + G hosted a popsicle hour in the park, with ice cold treats from Mom & Pop Shop!

How is it we haven’t mentioned Tabitha’s perfect, whimsical bridal look yet?! She wore the Agata Swing Dress from BHLDN with vintage hairpieces and custom shoes by Sevilla Smith. We are in love!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The parade was really a highlight for us- full of absolute joy and euphoria. Strangers honked, cheered, and snapped photos. Our friends/family cheered, waved flags, and surrounded us with love as we walked through our neighborhood right as the sun began to set, and as we approached the restaurant, neighbors leaned out of their windows to offer congratulations. It was completely magical.

Following the parade through downtown, we ended the evening with a four course (and 4 dessert course) Tex-Mex feast in the private room at Ledlow. (Fun fact- we live just upstairs, so we really kept it local!) We had drinks in this spot the first night we met, and had always talked about having a small wedding dinner there. Done! Needless to say, we frequent the place often and love the chef, Josef Centeno, and the fact that we could pick the food from any of his 4 restaurants to be served in The Penny Ante. We chose Bar Ama, his interpretation of Tex-Mex and plied our guests with four courses of delicious tex-mex, including the BEST queso. And then 4 more dessert courses. And wine, lots of wine. It was the best!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Give yourself plenty of time the day of because everything takes longer than you think it will, whether you DIY or not.

Have something custom made you can enjoy afterwards (Gavin's Kilt jacket) or a bit of decor you can save and display in your home (cheers sign).

Be flexible when you can. We were originally going to get married in a different part of the park facing the flag garden + city hall, but it was HOT that day, and the light (and shade) under the tree were so beautiful that we changed our ceremony location when we arrived in the park to set up.
